Black VoomPC

512MB RAM
Toshiba 80gb 2.5" laptop hard drive
DVD Burner
M2-ATX (smart power for carpc)

i cracked open my screen today...

how to build voompc...
im going to try to build a custom case with plexiglass after this...
so i can fit everything behind the screen... then i wouldnt need longer cables...
ill have to put voompc underneath the driver's seat or the passenger's seat...

the screen...
i took it apart... be careful not to rip any cables...
try not to squeeze the screen too hard...
im still waiting for epoxy kits and some tools i ordered online... around $50 shipped.
i went to homedepot the other day and i got sandpapers 36grit, 100grit, 220grit.
wetsand 600grit and a plastic primer... total $13.00
i also ordered wetsand 2000grit on ebay for $2.00 shipped

there are about 4-5 parts... dont lose anything or else ure focked... ^^

oh... i got this adapter on ebay... this doesnt fit on voompcs...
this is for the 2.5" laptop hard drive... motherboard requires 3.5" ide cable...

another tip when shopping for ur parts on ebay...
CHEAP doesnt always mean good...
try to avoid buying stuff outside of the United States...
i noticed a lot of people are having problems w/ chinese sellers...
Watch out guys... be careful...
compare the resolutions with other products...
make sure it has pretty decent native resolution... etc... research lil bit...

more pictures...

long cable connects power and speakers...
left tiny hole is for radio tuner... well i covered it up w/ my arm...

i should use plastic cutter... it's melting cuz im using metal cutter bah~ o well...

i did this cuz on the back there is screws to hold the climate control...

plexiglass will be used to hold the screens... i decided to use velcro to stick it on...
it will be screwed onto where the radio screws goes...
i want to keep everything oem... cuz ill probably sell the car later on...
if i want to keep or sell the carputer i can just pop the radio back on...

im using dynatron 660...
this stuff is AMAZING!!!!!!! you gotta mix A "paste" with B "accelerator/hardener"
when mixed u got about 2 mins... again u got like 2 minutes to fill it up/spread...
so mix little bit at a time... this stuff is very liquidy then gets rubbery then gets hard as PLASTIC...
great stuff...

using foil to fill the empty spots...

this is done today... march. 3. 2007
i gotta fill it up more then more sanding...
this process is a bitch!!!!
u rellly gotta take ur time...

milky...

Eugene... I've been planning this for a while... looking to start buying up parts soon... maybe get it done in time for the east coast meet? I doubt it, but I might try if I don't buy some rims. I'm looking to dash mount my pc as well, I'll be interested to see how yours turns out.

Just so you know, you're going to have to shave the vents down... that's why I'm going w/ an 8.4" 16:9 touchscreen that will amost fit in the stock navi slot.

I'd love to get more info on the power supply... I was looking to get a opus 150w.

What front end do you plan on running? Are you adding gps, fm? Check out the bluetooth mini freedom keyboard... looks great for car pcs. Also duck into mp3car.com if you haven't and check out their info.

How much? Where did you pick this up? Is it custom, or is it made for a car??? Looks very nice. Throw in a wireless card from Sprint or Cingular and you have it all!!! Very nice.

I was looking at that touch screen monitor too. But it is just so big. I am having problems figuring out where to put the touch screen as I plan to keep my factory stereo. But nice set up your doing. Can't wait to see the final results. Oh, and good luck...

CplDaugherty:
8.4" is good enough... i was thinking about this one too...
but when i was shopping for it...
i couldnt find a good price for what it's worth...
carefully look at the native resolutions...
and some other specs when shopping for screens...

"you're going to have to shave the vents down..."
see i dont want to do this... i it doesnt look normal...
i hesitated getting 10.4" but i did it anyways...
i dont know how normal my bezel will look...
but i have some ideas where i dont have to touch the vents...
i'll share it with you very soon... bare with me...

for power supply in carpc... u cant beat M2-ATX...
ive been carefully preparing this project for a long time...
opus is good too but m2-atx has very smart power supply with 160W.
read little bit about it...

M2-ATX (160w) Intelligent DC-DC Car PC Power Supply

mp3car.com is my homeground...
like i said... ive been carefully learning things in there...
very informative...
it's just amazing to see how people come with new ideas...

finding software is the easiest... so no biggie...
building the factory look bezel is the first thing...
hooking it the wires up is the next big thing...
after that... downhill...

last picture by "ronny"
i gotta go with ronny's style...

Hemi6.1:
How much? Where did you pick this up? Is it custom, or is it made for a car???

buy each parts... just like building a computer...
but it's gonna be in the car so... u need a different powersupply...
u can pick it up from ebay...
forums' classfied section.
yes, it will be custom made pretty much...

4u2nv:
sup bro...
i began searching for carpcs more seriously when i acrossed ur thread...
talkin about tv2go & slingbox thread...
if it goes bad, it's all ur fault... hehe...

Good to go, I'll check out that PS.

I'm interested to see how you will do the screen... moving the controls will be tricky but could look great if you pull it off (like the bottom pic).

I'm sure we'll be talking about this alot... you've got my bug itching for this again...
