Here's mine...

Seriously, there are many in this forum who have done basic av upgrades. Unless you are serious about a custom install like mine w/ touchscreen computer.

The advantage of using a pc specifically designed for auto use is the boot-up and shut-down methods. Drivesoft boots up in just 6 seconds as opposed to a 45 second home pc and it shuts down w/ key-off as opposed to a home-type shut-down which takes about 30 seconds.
After key shut-down, when you re-enter your vehicle just turn-on your key and it re-boots in 6 seconds with no error shut-down. Hence the reason for an auto-based pc rather than converting your own.

My system runs windows xp embedded which stripps all unnessesary stuff of XP. My motherboard has dc/dc power supply with remote. When I put my key in the ingnition it comes back from hibernation in about 8 sec. When I take the key out it waits 25sec to hybernate.
Her is a quote fron Drivesoft. They also run windows XP.
>>>Driver Friendly Software Lite - DFSL (Light version of DFS, not provided with hardware) (Introductory Price $49.00 USA Dollars)

Due to an overwhelming response to the Drivesoft System products, Drivesoft has decided to offer a light version of the DFS called Driver Friendly Software Lite (DFSL). The DFSL will offer a majority of the tuners and players and will be designed specifically for the individual that already has or wants to provide their own mobile computer hardware.

Note: Windows XP is the required operating system for Drivesoft DFSL.

Standard Software Features for DFSL

# FM/TV Tuner Software (WinTV PCI 401 or WinTV USB 621 FM/TV Tuner Required)
# DVD Player, CD Player and CD Ripper
# Video Player, MP3 Player and Picture Viewer
# XM Radio Tuner Software (XMPCR Required)
# CDDB Compatible for Auto-Labeling Songs on CD (Cellular Internet Service Required)
# Navigation Software Link Button (to launch third party navigational software)
# Upgrade Drivesoft System Software (Internet Required)
# Windows XP OS Link Button

It sounds like you have a better system than most. Alot of people simply add a ac/dc inverter to a home pc and think they have something acceptable for their car. Then they are upset at the delays in start-up/shut-down. With you stripping everything unneccessary from your set-up, it sounds like you are "up and running."
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.
