Steering Wheel Trim

I understand that you just need to gently pry up the dash bezel and shift surround to remove them, but how do you get the 4 pieces of sliver trim off the spokes of the steeing wheel? (or do you?)

I know for a fact the lower two (without any buttons) pry up the same way very easily. I've been bored at stoplights and done it on mine. I read that the two with buttons also pry up but that they can be a little tricky/delicate. I would say just start with the end that is farthest from the air bag since a very thin edge of the trim pieces rests under the air bag cover.

I believe you actually have to take out the airbag to get the top two out without breaking any tabs.

Take out the airbag? You're kidding right? Has anyone out there done this or better yet, tried to remove the silver trim pieces on the steering wheel that have the buttons in them? I really want to thave these four pieces coated, but I really don't want to mess with the airbag. How about you King-Pin? Any experience with this?
