If you could get it like that aviator with the chrome runners, that would be sweet.

Lenn,

when you do this take alot of pics for us.
I'd worry about maint. buffing, waxing taking out scuff marks etc.
now the question is what type off wood?

You got me thinking...

The pics of that Aviator are opening my mind.... (to someone else doing this)

Of course I've seen beautiful wood treatments in the beds of many a truck, and even a wagon or 2, but never in the passenger compartment. The acoustics issue kcrnmale brought up is a good point and probably would be a concern!

As tekhen asked, what type of wood? It would be very easy to go wrong with this car because there's already so much going on with 2-tone upholstery, tortoise shell trim, silver trim and chrome trim... maybe a light birdseye maple. BUT if you already have a wood dashkit, it might just be too much...

Going the way of mats like tommyz suggested is a great half-way approach before taking the big leap. Keep us posted on your decision lenn!

Some thoughts on wood floors . . .

If you pull up the carpets and install directly to the floor metal, you will probably have some real noise and vibration issues.

If you install stock flooring hardwood over the carpets, the thickness of the combined carpet and hardwood will compromise space for the brake and gas pedal as well as foot clearance for the rear passengers.

If you go with veneers or laminates over top of carpets, they may crack from flexing.

Wood is an interesting idea, but does present some engineering and design challenges.

To say the least.
Looks like Lincoln was very (very) careful to make the Aviator's flooring substrate perfectly smooth and linear. Laying veneer on top of that would be easy - not so with the factory floors of the 300C.
Not that it couldn't be done - but not without alot of planning.
(How many hrs of FoMoCo engineering time went into that floor?)

Heres a picture of the ones we did for the SEMA show they were carbon fiber.... i think a thin pergo floor material or maybe like a composite wood would do the best..

How about putting some wood floor on your trunk floor???

That should be interesting and it should not be that hard since its flat.

Actually, I'm currently having linoleum installed in the front/rear passenger compartments, as well as also within my car's rear trunk area. Hopefully, it'll be done before our next SoCal gathering in June.
