You could try to use a screwdriver to pop the clips, but you may scar the dash.

hmm I got it out, now my issue is that i dunno whats wrong with it. is it possible that with ALOT of use the grease is no good on the parts? The spring is there and looks ok, no wires in it, its just very stiff to open.

I know the guy who owned that car before me smoked in it and myb it just needs some lube?

did you use a panel remover? or just the screw driver? i dont want to damage anything, but unless autozone has a panel remover, im going to have to use a screw driver.

i just opened the ash tray, put my fingers on the bottom part of the panel and pulled it. its held in by clips that come out.

It took me a while cause i though id break it so i kept stopping and rethinking i but eventually i gently but firmly pulled it hard enough and the bottom clips came off and then the rest was a breeze

Careful doing it that way if you have Navi. The bezel sides around the screen are kinda weak. I've snapped a bezel in half trying to just pull it off.
