door panels..

i have decided to take the carpet of the bottom of the door panels and replace it with suede to match the headliner, tell me what you think.

this pic is of one door done and the other stripped waiting to be sueded.

this is an upclose of the completed panel.

I wondered how do you do that. It doesn't look like it comes off. Are you able to tuck excess material in?

I tried both versions. I was able to pull off the carpet on one door and wrapped it in the suede. The next doors carpet wouldn't come off so i tried the tuck. I sprayed the carpet and the edges with supper 77 stretched the suede over it and used a screen spiling tool to wedge it in. The edges under the speakers in the front have a little ply so i used a plastic pry to to shove it under. Then took a brand new knife blade and slid it around the edges and carefully pull the excess away.Then took the spline tool and ran it over the edges again. I think the trick to a smooth finish is to work from the corners out.
