Sounds great and the factory controls still work.

One more question, when you say "factory controls still work" what do you mean?

What is Canbus

What is Canbus???

You guys smoking Cannibus??? LOL

I just have not heard the term before and I have an Alpine IVA-D300 Touchscreen DVD Unit.

Wondering if I can use my steering wheel controls with my aftermarket??/

Does the CANBUS have anything to do with this???

Thanx guys..

The CAN BUS has everything to do with it. Most devices in the vehicle communicate with each other over the vehicles CAN bus. CAN = Controller Area Network. Basically a LAN (like networked PC's) except for the car. The steering wheel buttons send data over the CAN to tell the head unit (stereo) what to do. Currently, if you remove the factory stereo and put in an aftermarket one, you lose all steering wheel controls. There currently does not exist an add-on module that will let you retain the full steering wheel controls of your Pioneer/Alpine/Sony/Eclipse head unit.

The factory deck still works the volume/bass/treb controlos. Currently, we have the factory controls set at 0 and left alone in the trunk.
But if you use the steering controls the volume/bass/treb/fad/bal works.
The channel/cd/nav etc... must be controlled by the Eclipse.

Wes, maybe you and JonW can work something out on this issue... see his post:

I think most people would be happy if not satisfied with the volume controls on the steering wheel. On my wife's Expedition, we rarely do anything else from the wheel.
Just a thought until these companies get off the pot and build a workable interface.
PS. I think it would be funny and embarrasing if one of us comes up with a solution before the 3 major interface companies.
I just get tired of being jerked around. If you aren't working on anything, tell us. But don't say April, then May, now I'm told July.
Do your job and get us a working unit! If moneys what you are worried about...we will pay.
I could have sold 15 or 20 so far.

It's been Done . JonW showed me a working prototype interface to the CANBUS at the socal meet. He can control every steering wheel function from his laptop and numerous other neat tricks which I assume he will reveal when its complete. The companies have dropped the ball and JonW has picked it up and is about ready to tag them with it.

Put simply, I was amazingly impressed.

Yeah wes, I hear ya, could be a blessing in disguise though if JonW comes up with the solution.
Kinda like waiting for Corsa to step up to the plate... had it not been for their failure to do so, I (we) would not have found Zoomers!
