Many kudos to Lukeinva for this idea.. he has been very helpful to me on some other issues as well. I got the sub in this morning and took some pics-- I am still waiting on the amp so I can't tell you how it sounds yet (although I have all the wiring done)! I am in no way trying to steal Luke's thunder-- just plagerizing his great idea!
Here is the sub I used since it matches my light gray interior perfectly: Model Information
Some pics and hints:
Look at the picture of the plastic seat "guts." This is easily cut with a jig saw and formed with a dremel tool with a sanding drum on it. This shows you where to cut. The inside circle is cut away, and I cut the outside circle so the sub was recessed in about 1/2". This is so the speaker is almost mounted flush-- hence my armrest closes completely (see other pic). You will also see a small piece of the steel support needs to be ground away. I threw away the back metal piece and replaced it with 2 large washers. The sub BARELY fits, so be careful where you cut. I also threw away the cardboard insert from the upolstery.
Once the sub is mounted-- you should cut the sharp ends off the mounting screws with the dremel. I routed the wires inside the seat and down under the trunk floor mat. Be careful where you cut the back of the seat so the sub back can poke though. That is probably the trickiest part. Luke plans to make a "box" to cover his... I am not sure I will go through all that trouble since the trunk is actually a big "box" anyway (I know pure-ists.. wrong size).
Hope this helps, and CHEERS! I will update when I get the amp installed and can actually hear it (rather than look at it).
Brilliant!!
MC

Great looking install! Luke is a master at many different kinds of mods. I think he must secretly work for Will Castro over at Unique Whips….then again he just might be Will Castro himself. Congratulations on a great looking install and we’re very thankful to have Luke on our side! Keep us updated on your progress.
