A Mod for Stock Headlights

I did this on my F-150 several years back.

I went too my local auto parts store and bought these Led lights, but bule. Pilot makes these in all diffrent colors.

eBay Motors: PILOT LED ACCENT LIGHTS PURPLE (item 140097299425 end time Sep-11-07 13:46:36 PDT)

I Drilled a hole on each side of my Tourings headlight's. I chose the high beam side. Slipped in the led's and and ran them to a switch next to the ashtray. All wiring ran clean in a plastic black 3/8 loom.

Here is some crapy pics of the finnished product.

I will post some more pics with better lighting.

i've got a similar product, made by APC that's got adhesive on it so you can stick it in place. its specifically designed for headlights so it'll supposedly do OK with the heat generated by the lightbulbs, but i havn't installed them on any of my cars yet.

i debate whether the LEDs will last long-term. i know on most of the ebay auctions that list LED bulbs that replace regular glass bulbs for turn signals and such specify that they're not to be used in headlight assemblies because of the heat. one of the big LED websites, maybe autolumination or something, has a similar warning.

check the markdown section at your favorite auto parts store, i found 4 packs of LEDs with like 2 feet of wire each for 2.22 on clearence and found the headlight LEDs for 1.50 per pair, also on clearence.

because of the heat is why i put them in the area of the high beam. I never use the high beam so the heat isn't going to be a problem. These are not a replacement for the headlights in any way, just accent lighting. it was an easy install. just drilled the specefied hole size in the top of the headlight caseing and wired it up. I am thinking of putting 1 blue in each tail light to give a purple affect.
