Yeah I may just resort to doing that.

However if I just add a fusable link wouldn't I achieve the same safety of not blowning the box(es)?

I was even thinking about fusing each box (four total) to prevent this from happening again. Would that be a bad idea? And if not, what size fuse for each box?

rsmeanie, where is the cig light wire located, and what color if you don't mind me asking. I want to do the same route. any tips on how to locate it would be very helpful. Thanks.

I don't remember the color of the wire but it was from the 2-wire connector plugged into the cigarette lighter. I lost my lighter when I did my ipod mod so the plug was going to be unused anyway. It's already fused and can be set for 12v constant or in accessory mode.
