HID "K" Question

Ok this might be a lame question so forgive me.

I have the stock HID's on my 2005c and have a question. Does the bulb determine the "K" or color that the light outputs or is it the ballast? I think it's the ballast, but want to make sure. Our HIDs are 6k I believe, but if I popped in a 4k,8k or 10k bulb would it work?

Again, I am 99% sure that the ballast determines the output, but maybe it's like a lightbulb in a lamp that could use a small range of bulbs.

yea it would work

I THINK its the bulb b/c you can replace just the hid bulb and choose what color you want it to be and not change the ballast. Stealthauto has a thread showing this just search. Also i think our all HID's come with 4300k b/c it emits the most lumens, but maybe the newer cars have 6000k.
