HID Questions

I have OEM HID's on my 2007, are both the low beam and high beam HID's?

If I wanted to upgrade to 6k or 8k would I have to change both? What are the replacement bulbs, D1??

Lastly I want to put halo's on, but would the brighter HID's drown out the halo lights. And what are the more stable halo's out there?

Thanks in advance.

good questions... I'm also considering upgrading the stock HID's to something in the 8000k range and would love to know the answers to this as well.

One more question to add... when you go to a higher light value does it affect how far you can actually see with your headlights at all ??? or is it basically just changing the color output.

I believe the high beams are Halogen, but I could be wrong. I will check on our Heritage Edition later tonight. You may be able to tell by how the back of the bulb position looks in the lamp assembly. IF it is covered by a rubber moisture seal, then it's HID. If you see a right-angle plug with the wiring visible, then it is Halogen. Also your owner's manual should give you some indication of whether any high beams are HID or not.

With respect to brightness and distance illuminated... IF you already have HIDs then you probably will not see any further down the road, only the color will be effected until you get above 8000K (IIRC). If you have halogen's currently then the replacement with HIDs will result in significant improvement in brightness and distance illuminated.

Thanks for the info Tim... I have HID's already so I was more concerned about losing visibility when going into the higher blue ranges. The color is definitely nice but if I run into a deer because I can't see anymore then it'll defeat the purpose

cheers!

the higher the Ks, the bluer it looks, but the less your visibility is.

Stock HIDs manufacturer's put on their cars are 4300K. This is super white. The bluish tint comes from the projectors that are installed. The lens on the projector gives the blue tint.

so if you take out factory 4300k, put in 8000k, it will look more blue, but wont shine as far, hence lower visibility.

I personally think that the 5000k or 6000k kit is the best, with or without having projectors.

Well put! I wanted a bluer hue without sacrificing visiblity so 1) I installed HID fogs and 2) upgraded all HID bulbs to 6000K.

my HIDs are 10000k and they are significantly brighter than the 8000k. once you go above 10000k and get to 12000k, thats when the lights start to become less bright. but my 10000k HIDs are more blue than any other lights ive seen and brighter as well.

BIG SMOOTH,

That's what I want to do with mine. Like the pics. Do other drivers think the fogs are too bright? And did you have HID high beams? Also congrats on commercial.
