Questions concering HID's

Background info:

Purchased an HID kit about 3-4 months ago. I've had 0 problems up until about a month and a half ago. One of the lights stop working sometimes. For the first 2-3 weeks i started having problems with it, it only stopped working like once or twice in a week. I had to tweak with the wires for a few mins and hit the switch on and off a lot and then it would work. For the last week or so almost every night it would not work until i messed with the wires, and headlight switch. I've checked the wiring multiple times, making sure connections were tight and secure. Not sure what the problem could be.

Questions:

1. If it were a bad bulb, could it still work sometimes?

2. If it were the ballast, could it still work sometimes?

3. I'm almost thinking it could be a bad igniter, what do you think?

4. Bad/loose wiring, such as the connectors or something?

Other Info:

The other light has had 0 problems, it works like a charm.

I know the ballasts make a whining type noise when on, the bad one(when not working) doesn't make the noise. Also, the bad headlight NEVER has turned off when Im driving or anything, but right when i turn them off it sometimes wont turn on. So I'm leaning twords bad igniter.

One other question not about the HID's(or maybe it is) is when i hit the unlock on my key fob sometimes the headlight flash on and off real quick, not staying on like they should, but most of the time they stay on. Why would this do that?

I've contacted the company they said find out if its the bulb or ballast and send it in for a replacement, but i need to find out what it is for sure first.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get all the info on here. Thanks for all the input.

Sorry... didn't see this thread/question before. It might help to tell us what kit and what supplier?

I have OEM HIDs on the Heritage Edition and they have never given any issue whatsoever. I don't hear any whine or other noise when they are on.

On the MSRT8 I just recently installed Stealth Auto 6000K HIDs and as far as I can tell they don't make any noise either when functioning.

If you're lights will come on at all, I'd say the ignitor is Ok. If sometimes they don't come on, then the ignitor may be inquestion. However, if they most frequently go off during operation, then I would question the ballast as being the weak link.

Good luck. At least it sounds like the supplier will replace under warranty whatever part has proven defective.

That's one of the good things about the Stealth system... lifetime warranty.

Its the 6000k gtec kit from fashtek.com.. I've talked to a few people with the kit from them and they never had a problem.

The bad light has never turned off when it was on. Just had problems getting it to turn on. Like i said before lately it would not turn on unless messing with the wires. But the last 3-4 nights, no problems at all, so Im not sure what to do.

For the igniter, is it built in the ballast? Or is the part of the wires that come off the ballast?

Also, when unlocking the car i get a quick flash from the lights, sometimes they come on, sometimes they don't... not sure why. For the first few months they came on everytime, I did try to turn them off with the code for the key fob, but still turn on sometimes.

This stuff is frustrating me!

That sounds like it might be a wiring mix-up... if they come on even when you don't have the "lights on" fob setting activated. Could be short in a wire from the ignitor also.

I've seen kits from XenonDepot and Stealth. In both cases the ignitors were separate from the ballast.

hmm. Well i don't have a EVIC, so i searched and found this post about turning it off using the key fob, But it didn't work. Is there really a way to make it so they don't turn on when unlocking the car?

I doubt theres a wire mix up, because these lights worked perfect for a about 2 months with no problems at all. If and when they act up again ill probably just send the ballast in for a new one. Im thinking its the ballast or the wires coming off of it.

Sorry... can't help any further with Touring details as I don't have one as a point of reference. Are you able to put your old halogen bulb back in while you wait for the replacement from gtec?

Good luck with fixing your kit. I hope they take care of you ok.

We do sell just our anti-flicker capacitor that it may or may not help your problem out. We have had customers drive off then call us the next day saying the started flickering after a few hour of use.... weird. Usually the'll have issues right away.

see the anti-flicker here.

If not like you said you can always get one of ours. If you use the coupon HID INTRO it will give you an additional $25 off!

let me know if I can help further.
