What is the "K" rating on OEM HIDs

I have an 05' 300C AWD with stock OEM HID low beams. I purchased a Xenon Depot 4300K fog light upgrade and installed it. The fogs look white, but not as white as the HID low beams. I was told the low beams were 4300K, but have also read that Chrysler puts a blue hue on the OEM lens in front of their low beam bulb. Anyone ever get a perfect (or close) match on a fog light upgrade (HID) that matches their OEM low beams? Wondering if I have to go with a 6000K bulb perhaps in the fogs?

Mixing and matching HID companies will create the problem that you have discovered. Just because they are rated the same...doesn't mean that they are exactly the same...there is always a +/- on each companies bulb. I would suggest changing the Factory HID bulbs out to 6000k or 8000k and then getting the matching bulb from the same company for your fogs. That way you will have a match.

On new HID bulbs there is also what is called a "color-shift phenomenon" which takes like 50-100 hours of use before they begin to lighten or whiten up to match BUT having the same manufacturer for both HID lows and Fogs will give you the best color match.

factory HIDs are 4300k

they look blueish because the projector lens has a stain/tint on it

if you want to match it, 6000k is the way to go. if you find a company that sells 6500k, even better

The UK HID's are by this posts comments 4300K too but why do they add the blue tint instead of using a 5000K or 6000K bulb to begin with?

because 4300k lights have better visibility compared to 6000k bulbs, or whatever is higher

the higher the K, the bluer it looks, but the less visibility for the road ahead.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sounds like 6000K then would be the closest match to the factory HIDs. Nothing about $130 won't take care of I guess. Thanks.

Thats not quite correct. Chryslers HIDs have the blue tint for the same reason as all other projector HIDs do. Its because of the shield and their distance from the bulb. The shields cutoff the light at the right place for the light to be bluish. If you bend the shield in or out, you can adjust the color.

I've been doing projector conversions for about 5 years now and every one has a different color because of those stupid shields. FYI if you sharpen the edge of them you can get even more color, or if you cut a slot you can increase the "flicker" effect.

My stock projecters look kinda purple. I am realy undecided what to do about the fog lights. Would like to try one of those plug and play HID kits
