I understand that it will be a little less bright but not much. It's not like I'm moving from 4300k to 12000k. However, I moving from 2 headlights with 4300k hids to 2 healights and 2 fogs with 5000k hid lights. Which set do you think would give off more light?hmm

4300-5000 is the most useable white light.

im not saying you will lose light. im just stating that the higher the color temp the less light output. its a common misconception that the higher the temp the brighter or hotter they burn.

you are not going to lose any practical lumen output shifting to a 5k. just that nasty yellow edge at the cutoff.

I think the real deal is that the eye is not as sensitive to the light at higher K temperatures. I have the standard DIS lamps and they don't have a yellow cast to them. They are a white with a blue cast to them........

I thought the same till I put mine next to a car 6000k HID. Then the yellowish tint in 4300k stands out like a saw thumb.

aftermarket 4300 will definately have the yellowish around the edges. oem's do not. there is inconsistency in the labeling of these lights. kelvin is highly subjective.

if you want white white get 5000. 6000 will have blue in the headlight mainly white with slight bluish on the ground.

You guys clue me in. I don't understand the concern about changing the D1S yourself. It looks to me that you just remove the rubber boot then unplug the tin box and clip and pull them out. I would make sure the key fob wasn't accidentally hit while in the process of unplugging the bulb. Unless the case is the ground for the bulb you shouldn't be subjected to any high voltage being the plug is pulled out with out touching the pins on the end...... It's a personal thing but I still like the stock bulbs best as they are nearest to sunlight which will provide the most visibility and maybe a longer life since the Kelvin temp is lower.....

Huh? Who has a problem replacing the stock bulb...it's just like changing any bulb. The thread was started by me asking where can I find d1S 5000k bulbs.

You want a good reliable D1S bulb. Go with a Phillips. Aftermarket D1S bulbs tend to be polarity sensitive and often require a switch in polarity. Unless the aftermarket D1S comes with a polarity reversal wire, you might find yourself cuting and swapping to fix the issue. To avoid the problem all together - stick with Philips or Osram when it comes to the D1S or D1R type HID Xenon bulbs... As for Kelvin Temp - 4300K is stock color white for OEM type bulbs. 4300K in aftermarket bulbs are often golden yellow (specialty colors).
