CFL Halo's and HID's are on my "want list"

Hi all,

New owner long time luster of the 300! So this is my first non introduction post and as someone stated in my intro post "let the moddings begin"

Two of the things I want are HID and CFL Halo's but I have make sure you understand the "type" of person I am.. I guess anal would work.. I am a former Corvette guy so the level of my mods has to be on part with what is offered in the aftermarket for the Vette's. I realize that the HID will pretty much be a swap out, but I am worried about the Halo's. My last daily driver was an 01 Inferno Red Stratus and I wanted clear corners, of course there is NO aftermarket for the Stratus so I had to make my own clear headlights (which required the whole bake at 250 degrees and pray you don't screw up a 400 dollar capsule, and burn the skin off your fingers, and stab yourself with the straight screwdriver three times).

From what I gather it's the same deal with AAC Halo's or I can send them the capsules and they will install them (for $175.00 install fee???). Do I get any guarentee that they correctly re-sealed the lights? Mine never leaked but that's because I did them... I don't particularly ever want to do it again and would rather pay someone if they guarentee the work.

Also when I do the HID swap, I guess that's the low beam? Do I have to worry about blinding anyone? I have the Smartvision system in my 300 and the stock projectors have a razor sharp cutoff which if adjusted right I am guessing shouldn't cause any issues?

I guess the other way would be to swap out to OEM HID capsules, but are they auto leveling?

Thanks in advance for the tips and advice, I have searched the forums and gathered some great info so far. Help steer me in the right direction so I can do it right the first time!

Brett

I don't know if they have any DIY halo kits, I think they all require you to hand over your capsules and let them do the work, that way they would be willing to honor the warranty they give you. I'm prettysure there are a couple places that give you a warranty, in case if they aren't fully sealed when you get them they should make it right. I really want a set of HALO's too including the fogs. Let me know how it turns out as I'm sure you'll probably get yours done before I will.

actually they are selling a halo kit on ebay right now, u can buy the kit and install it yourself or have some one help you from here........there has been some issues with improper seals from people that sent them in, but that was a while ago.

AAC also has a diy video on youtube, the install itself is pretty easy

Flossin,

Thanks for posting the links. I have seen the install video and done a lot of searching here on the forums. What I gather is lots of people who wanted to do DIY installs received broken CFL's from AAC which I am sure was ultimately "made right" not sure I understand how or why they would get broken in shipping as I've been a UPS global shipping account holder and I've shipped far more fragile items across the world. I've also read that there are plenty of issues with the ballast they use. I certainly hope this has been fixed because if it's not, I won't buy them. I am as I said, VERY picky I've done the whole car show scene for many years with my vette's and other race cars/street cars. My Stratus was such a letdown because the aftermarket was so cobbled together, the parts were so "junky" that after two sets of coil overs (a few grand) I lost all interest in the car and just stopped taking care of it at all.

I do not want to make that mistake with my 300. Any part that goes on this car has to be professional quality OEM caliber and fit right. The AAC Halo's look like a great product and I'd much rather have the cathode technology rather than dimly lit, unevely lit LED's or fibre halo's but in the same breath, they must work, they can't fall loose, I can't have lights that fog up inside etc.

Same goes with the HID lighting, if I can't find an aftermarket kit that is up to what I expect with perfect wiring, completely OEM quality, then I would just pony up more money for the OEM parts.

DIYing the halo's is out of the question because I've been down this road with the Stratus. AAC says 250 degrees to seperate the capsules and in thier video they just pull right apart. My real world experiance tells me otherwise! I've done the whole 250 for 30 and I would up having to reheat the capsules five, six times each to get them apart. Ultimatly ruining any hope of reusing the OEM adhesive, pliable sealant. I would up having to use clear RTV and that's not an option on my 300 they have to be sealed up like OEM.

HemiAddict,

I will keep you in the loop for sure! It's not going to be an overnight process on my modding because I have another HUGE expense in my life (a boat) but it will happen and I will spend lots of time planning before I do anything.

Right now the only two items that are guarenteed to be going on my 300 are the Volant CAI and the Corsa or Magnaflow catback. I have had first hand experiance with all three of those manufacturers and have never been let down. You pay the price for thier quality, I LOVED my Corsa's on my C5!
