Iwonder if it would be possible to make it so that the lights only light up when you open the door so they are actually useful to you when you get out! so you dont step on that puddle or dead rat!

This is exactly how mine are hooked up. They are tapped into the interior lights so they come on when you unlock the doors also. And yes they fade out just like the interior lights.
I have had them on now since July 07. I do now have to replace the back one on each side. For some reason they get more road grime than the rest. Easy solution though, autolumination sells a 2 light kit for cheap, I just haven't had time to replace those two, but I do have the replacements.
Interior light: Yellow wire w/ white stripe in second harness back behind the glove box.
Yes they match the headlight color almost exact, and they do light up the ground as good or better than the door lights. Quite classy looking in my opinion.

I just happen to have a set and was looking at the wiring behind the driver side kick panel today... Could someone tell me what color the door puddle light wiring is.. Don't want to tap into the wrong ones

"puddle Lights"

...I got mine from...rv leds Superlumination.com leds (Automotive Replacement Light Bulbs, Headlights, Foglights & Lamps)
They work very well, had 'em installed for almost a year, no burned out bulbs.




12 Volt Accent Lights
Each light measures 1-1/4" diameter x 3/4" thick.
Each light is weather sealed.
Each light comes with a corrosion resistant stainless steel adjustable angle
mounting bracket.
Each bracket and light come with two sided tape for mounting.
You can screw mount the lights and brackets for a permanent installation
(screws not provided).
Light sets are all pre-wired. Just mount and connect the end up to power.
Lights are mounted every 14" on center.
10 light string for both sides of the vehicle 78" x 78" x 100" $24.99
