Sylvania silverstar Ultra 9005 will fit. Brighter, and comes close to matching Factory HID. I like them. They are highbeam bulbs, so they are not shielded like the 9145, but since they are so low to the ground, you shoudn't have a problem.

I've heard of people putting 9005's in the 9145's, but I thought that was a myth that a 9005 was brighter. From what I understood, the only difference between the bulbs is the housing/connector/plug/base part - whatever you call it - but the 9005 is close enough to fit in the 9145 socket. But the capabilities of the bulbs were the same. Basically, same bulbs but different base. Therefore, people often falsely go to the 9005 for the fogs, thinking that "high beam" bulbs must be brighter. Am I wrong?
Also, I'm surprised to hear that SS Ultras are close to matching OEM HID. I have aftermarket HID lows/fogs (9006/9145) and SS Ultra highs (9005). My HID's are 8000K, so I didn't even expect, nor was I trying to match my high beams to my HID's (I was simply looking for performance with my highs - which BTW, SS Ultras are unbelievable bulbs! Love em.)
But the SS Ultras are still quite yellow. I think the OEM HID is 4300K if I'm remembering correctly. That being said, I can't imagine that these look similar. ?
Here are a couple of pics showing my lows vs. my highs. Again, I have 8000K, so clearly there is a difference, but look at the yellow in the SS Ultras. That's what OEM HID looks like? In truth though, it may look more yellow due to the contrast, who knows. One thing is for sure - Ultras are BRIGHT and LONG.
BTW - garrett, why not HID? Kits are crazy cheap these days and if you really want some nice halogen bulbs, then you are going to be near the same price ballpark anyways. Just a thought.
The 9005 is technically brighter; its 60W compared to 45W of the 9145... but thats not the real difference. The 9145 bulbs have diffuser caps that spread light sideways, the 9005's don't.
9005 bulbs will fit into 9145 sockets. 9006's won't.
If you want brighter fogs, any 9005 is better than the 9145. See here for lotsa 9005 options:
Interesting pics. Many people on here state OEM HID as 4300k... they're actually 4100K... which like you say is very close to the SS Ultras at 4000K. I wonder if you could find someone nearby with stock HID and get a side by side pic.
The stock foggers are so yellow that my OEM HIDs look pretty white, but when compared to 8000K... huge difference. I agree to go HID if you want ultimate brightness; there's no comparison to halogens.

Didn't know there was a wattage difference. And as to the diffuser caps, I don't think mine have that, but I'll check tomorrow. Would it make a difference that they are HID bulbs, instead of halogen bulbs? I'd actually prefer diffuser caps, as my fogs are extremely bright due to the standard halogen housings - but I can see why somebody wouldn't want the diffuser caps on halogen bulbs if they want brightness.
And I wasn't saying that the OEM HID was very close to SS Ultras... I was actually wondering if that was true? I'd be surprised to see that OEM HID is that yellow-ish. I'll get some side by side pics with OEM HID as soon as I get a chance.
So what type of high beam bulbs do you have? If you have SS Ultras then you can be the perfect side by side comparison. My lows stay on when I turn my highs on, so I'd like to see OEM HID lows with SS Ultra highs together.
Still can't imagine they'd be the same color. Who knows. Hopefully I can get some pics.

Interesting question. I'm not sure what the deal is with HID fogs. I'd be surprised though if what you wanted didn't exist. I've never seen a cap on an HID bulb but there are other ways to reduce focal length and spread light sideways.
This is weird. The SS Ultras are listed as 4000K. My manual tells me my HIDs are 6920F... which converts to 4100K. So they oughtta be a fairly close but I don't see it. I think I'm going to do EXACTLY what you suggested, idk why I didn't think of that(!) and put them side by side.
I'll post pics here for comparison to your 8000K HIDs.
