Can I install factory 300C HIDs onto 300C with factory halogen projectors?
I've got a 2006 300C fully loaded, but mising the HIDs.
This particular car 2006 has the LMTS Halogen Projector w/Delay Lamps
The original HID option is LMP High Intensity Discharge Headlamps
I do not want to mess with the atermarket kits, so the question is - what needs to be replaced besides the headlaps assemblies? I have a pair of original working HID headlamp assemblies in my posession.
P.S. I had the similar experience with 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. After replacing the headlamps assembies the HID ones they just blinked once and did not light (HIDs started fine off battery, started flickering when the engine was on, could shut down on high RPMs, also didn't start in colder weather).
The solution was the IPM (Integrated Power Module) replacement. This module contorls all loads and also has the underhood fuse block assembly on the top. There were 2 different part numbers for halogen and HID headlamps. So after replacing all 3 pieces (2 headlamps+IPM) the HID worked no problem, no programming needed. Since 300C has a CAN bus instead of J1850 there might be some programming issues as well, ot no need for IPM replacement.
It looks like 2006 300C has only one version of IPM 5161486AA
I have read this thread: factory HIDs in c without factory HIDs
Also this thread explains how to retrofit the halogen housing with the HIDs - not exactly my case How-To: OEM Hid Retrofit
it can be done, PM SuperT on LXForums, tell him I sent you, he has a dodge magnum he put a 300C front on and made the HIDs work, he can get you all the proper connectors part numbers and what he did to make it work.. he and I worked together over the phone on it for a few weeks until he finally got it.
the Magnum has the same wiring as the 300 with halogen lights, so his work should be 99% exact to what you need to do.
Thank you!
According to this source How-To: OEM Hid Retrofit it's a direct swap.
However the halogen factory version uses the low beams to blink-to-pass while the HID version uses high beams for blink-to-pass.

no both cars use the high beams as flash to pass, the low and high beam are single filiment bulbs, only time a low beam is used for flash to pass is when it is a dual filiment bulb acting as both low and high beam, like most motorcycles that only have one headlight
I know that was a Captain Obvious moment and some people just like a challenge, but my aftermarket HID's (low's and fogs) have been going strong now for nearly a year and a half, I did replace one bulb about a month ago (a pair of new HID bulbs were $26.00) best $120 I ever spent!

X2! ^^
I haven't had mine that long, but the price difference is insane. I could swap out aftermarket kits many times and still save money in the long run as compared to OEM HID's.

This is all great, but as I said before, I already have a set of original working HID headlamp assemblies. So in my case price does not matter. BTW the halogen projectors stink comparing to HIDs.
Yes you can do a swap. When you say "assemblies" does that include the entire housing? If so, then yes. If you only have the Projectors, they can be swapped out on the housing, but you have to make a few minor mods to the halogen housing in order to mount the ballasts to them.
There is also another detailed thread at the forums "that shall not be named" Check your PM :P

Yes I've got the entire housings and guess what? The low beams connectors for HIDs are 8 pins (2 pins used) and halogens are only 2 pins connectors. No big deal - did some soldering.
However I think I see some HID flickering after the swap when the engine is on.
Will follow up.
Toshik, I did the first halogen retrofit almost five years ago using identical part numbers for the OEM HID's because the assemblies were not readily available used and new ones were very expensive. Mines were early builds, 2/04 & 6/04.
A few months later I exchanged the first retrofit because found used OEM HID assemblies and also did the first complete retrofit.
For the flickering I explained on my thread how to avoid it easily.
Enjoy and welcome to the "OEM HID retrofit club".
For me the benefit of the retrofit its that looks OEM, you pass inadvertently and do not blind the incoming drivers.
I still own both cars and the system never failed.
