Console lights turn on and off at will.

My wife's crysler 300 has some electrical issues. One of which the console lights will turn on or turn off randomly when driving with the lights on. Also the cigarette lighter wont work but I dont think the problems are related. I'm sure the answer is simpe however Im not a mechanic, can anyone help?

Cigarette lighters going on any car is usually a fuse.
The lights would indicate there is a loose wire.

Thanks for the info. I fixed the cigarette lighter and you were right it was the fuse, but do you have any advise on where I how should look for a loose wire?

is this LX or LH car?

the 2005 and newer LX cars have a TSB out about a loose ground behind the cluster that causes the dash lights and cluster to flicker in and out..

can't help onthe LH cars, don't know anything about them.

Does the ground pertain to only the cluster and dash or to all the lights except the navigation?

if you pull out your cluster you will see a ground strap bolted to the framing directly behind the cluster.

that is the ground strap for the whole dash harness, so it effects everything attached to the dash, as well as the power window switches (if you have auto up and down)..

I'm hoping it's as simple as just the ground strap! Even my windows go down in a pulsating motion when the lights start to flicker... When I disconnect the terminal it does it real bad and the car acts as if it wants to shut off, I was thinking a bad alternator?

Any other ideas on how this could be fixed or what's causing it would be greatly appreciated. When I searched the forums for threads on flickering lights, most touch on HID's...
