I am so ready for this event and to meet all you guys and gals
This sunday I was involved in the most exhilerating car experience I've ever had. I left Las Vegas this past Sunday 9:00am and go to my destination at the El Toro air base down in Irvine for the exclusive invitation only Cadillac V-Series Chanllenge. It was a two day event with four sessions. My session was sunday from 12:30 to 5:30pm. They limit it to just 60 people per session then divided us into 3 groups of twenty to go thru a circuit of four car experiences. When I arrived at 12:30 they feed us good ordirves and showed us a little video til 1pm. They even had a real famous race car driver there as to lend them some weight. Then they shuttled us to the race track. They had us in groups of twenty to take a pictures together standing around their 3 cars...cts-V, sts-V, and the xlr-V. At the end of the day they gave us this large plaque with this group shot and a certificate of completion in our personalized goodie bag.
First up for my group was this. They had 6 xlr-V convertibles waiting for us ($100,000) cars. We each took turns doing the fasted zero-60 sprints we could then we would just as quickly end our run by slamming the brakes and doing a 60mph to zero stop. We each had about 8 runs like this followed by a short slalom around cones set up in which we can enter them at around 40 mph. This took about 30 minutes for all twenty of us to complete.
Then we moved to section two. We took on more xlr-V for even more slalom racing for another 30 minutes or so. Almost every time the aggressive drivers would push these cars to the limit as evident by the tire screeching around each cone. Some of us were really testing the traction limits of these cars.
Then the really fun event came before us. We put on helmets and we played lead-follow on this 3 miles race course. We were in groups of four cars with an instructor to lead each group. We did four laps each as each car took a turn right behind the instructor car. We were supposed to stay 3-5 car lengths behind each car. I was able to close the gap to less than a car length behind another student car. When it was my turn behind the lead car I stayed right on his bumper many times. He communicated via walkie-talkie to all the cars and once told us to all spread out a little because I think all of us were too close to each other as our skills might be similar or whatever. My crowning momment came when the instructor in the lighter car CTS-V (manual gear box) told me that coming out of this turn he wanted to put some distance between his car and my STS-V (automatic and 400 pounds heavier). However, I had other plans.....I had stayed close on his car throughout this lap and I was surely going to step on the gas as soon or sooner than he was when exiting this turn. Then I heard this comment come over to my walkie-talkie....." well, I guess your car has a little more horsepower than I thought". I was right on his tail coming out of that turn as well. There was only one major mishap when I was a passenger to my friend's driving. The car in front of us fishtailed hard and then spun out in front of us....luckily my friend was far away and avoided that car.
Then came the timed autocross for the next hour. After practicing we all got one momment to shine with a single lap to see who is the fasted. The best of the day or weekend was in the 22 second range. In our group of twenty we had many guys who were fast and posted times in the 23 seconds. My time of 23.378 could have won it on some other sessions they said.
Finally we all got a hot lap riding shotgun with an intructor back on the road race. He got car car up to 130mph for a second then backed off.
At the very end to top off the day... I was thoroughly impressed with the plaque and now they give us each a new pair of racing/driving shoes called piloti. Top notch treatment I think. This was an inaugural event that may not be repeated according to them...only time will tell. It is going to be really hard to top this event when I experience the SRT Track Experience come October. How do you top this?
Anyhow, I hope that this experience will prove helpfull at willowsprings in my car. I really want to make our event a safe and fun event.
Well, I better end this long read hear and thanks for your patience to get to this period.
See you soon,
