Oct. 21 - Bridge Day in WV - this years sponsored by Dodge!

Taken from this website:

Quote:
On October 21st NEW Dodge Bridge Day~Down Under Tours for 2006! West Virginia Dodge Dealers, McDonalds of Oak Hill, New River Juniors, and the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce a new opportunity for DODGE New River Gorge Bridge Day™ tour into the gorge! These two hour tours into the gorge on Bridge Day let the participants get up close and personal as they view the BASE jumpers and rapellers from a new vantage point—the bottom of the Gorge!
Just trying to give my fellow Mountaineers an idea. I think this would make a great M&G location and cruise, starting with breakfast (or lunch) at Glenn Ferris Inn on US Rt. 60 near the end of the Gauley River... and then cruise over past Hawks Nest and through Ansted, etc.

As for me, the 21st is out because I'll be at a family wedding in/near Rockford, IL that evening.

HOWEVER, Candy and I are "thinking" about taking a road trip (like we did last Oct.) through WV on Oct. 14. Who... if anyone might be interested to cruise along with us this year? Routing is negotiable...

Last year we left here at 9am and drove down I-77 to Charleston and then over US60 (Midland Trail) to Glenn Ferris for lunch... then we cruised over toward (but not to) the New River Bridge & Gorge. That was a fun drive with twisties and overlooks and lots of motorcycles (it was Bridge Day last year). Then we turned north to Summersville, then over to Green Bank (some good twisties again) and the Radio Astronomy site... then on to Seneca Rocks and finally back through Phillipi and Clarkesburg. It was the first stretch of the legs in our possession for our used '05. This year we'll be stretching the Heritage Edition.

Let me hear from ya.

In love with my first wife and first car ('68 Charger) ... still have the wife, but now there's the Heritage Edition and a Magnum SRT8!

Ok... for Oct. 14th wife and I have set the "halfway" destination as Lewisburg and the Greenbrier Inn, probably taking US60 from Charleston/Belle all the way over to Lewisburg. From there we would be working our way back to Clarksburg via the back Appalachian mountain roads, but we've not looked at any further details at this point. Wife is definitely excited about anything to do with the Greenbrier!

To get an idea of some of the scenery that can be expected (although it may be too early for full fall colors), check out this Gauley Mountain PDF for info.

We're thinking an early afternoon lunch in Lewisburg, or at the Greenbrier Inn, and then dinner around Clarkersburg, say 730-8:00. Thereafter the long drive back home along US50 west in the dark.

No one interested in cruisin' at least part of it with us?
