Question Windshield chips and door dings

Is there somebody or some company in NOVA that anyone could recommend for repairing windshield stone chips and or door dings?

Kenk- hello again, If your windshied is really bad and you want to have it replaced, I can recommend a guy who did mine (in his shop) and really babied my car. After I had it replaced I had it treated with a coating that they use on military vehicles, it has been a year and not a singe chip.

It is called Diamond Fusion. If rock chips bug you this is the solution:

Diamon-Fusion International: Applicable Products

Door dings

I had a parking lot dent in my driver side door removed---and I defy anyone to point it out now. The dent was near the top of the door where the metal curves down-- a terrible place for a dent. Call Don at 703-769-7785.--- Rob

Not sure of your exactly location in NoVA, but I remember you mentioning D.C. in a PM. The top link looks pretty good. The second link is a smaller shop but they do free estimates which is always a plus!!!

G'luck.

Thanks to everyone for the tips. I only have one small rock chip in my windshield right now, but it is right at eye level. The car has no door dings but I am probably going to remove the side moldings, so......

I can't stand door dings and scratches so, unfortunately when I need them and I am guessing I will, I definately will follow up on these leads.

Does anybody know approx. what a door ding costs to repair? I had a glass chip done a year or so ago for $50 but I had not done any research as it was a company car.

Thanks.

The price was about $150.00 and worth it.

I had a big rock smack my window recently. Heavy hit, left powdered glass in the contact zone, spider cracks from the center, even some of the rock left in the midde. Near the impact zone, some delamination has occured. I called the insurance company, they were to send a team to my office to replace the window.

The safelite truck shows up without any new glass. Says the replacement deductible is 100 bucks, repair, however, is free. So I then ask if the damage could really be repaired, he assures me that it can.

He puts a small device on the window, fills the hole with some epoxy.....

End result? Well, it was free to me, 60 dollars to the insurance company. I guess its ok, sign paperwork, etc. Only when I research this process on the internet do I start to get angry. The "technician" did not follow the published safelite procedures, the damage is now truely irreperable, and I am out time and trouble.

If you do chose to repair your window chips, read all about the procedure on the internet FIRST. Then, call your insurance company, as most will cover the repair cost entirely.

Whiskey, Where did you find specs on how to do the job correctly?

Aren't all windshields safetlite now? I had a repair on my Navigator done at a glass company (windows, mirrors, cars, etc.) They knew what they were doing but didn't seem to have done car repairs very often. My repair is just "OK." You can still see a very small bubble of repair stuff at the spot of the damage. I have seen people do this and other types of car repair that absolutly cannot be seen. We need a good contact with one of those guys that has a contract with a couple of car dealers in NOVA. They come to them and, if they are good at it, repair glass, leather, vinyl, etc so well you can't tell. Anybody know such a person? If not, maybe when the NOVA 300 forum gets up and running we can cut a deal with one of them. If there is interest a very good frined of mine (he bought me my car) is an auto wholesaler and buys and sells used cars for dealers in the area as well as himself. He could probably put me in touch with someone. Any interest? Do any of these types frequent the car shows, such as the one Saturday in Fredericksburg?

Safelites own page is here:
US Windshield Repair has more info here:

The "technician" on my window did not clean any debris or water from the damaged point, did not flex the window for full resin deployment, and scraped resin from below the top plane of the window edge when cleaning. A depression and sharp edges still surround my break point.

Better watch out, though . . . "free ain't free"

I lived in NoVa for 13 years and my auto insurance company said "we'll fix your chipped windshield for free" and so I thought they did because we called them to have 3 chips repaired in the 2 years before I was relocated to Texas. Got to Texas 2 years ago and found out that Company was not writing insurance policies here.

So I get a couple of quotes and everyone came back wanting to charge me High Risk rates cause I have 3 claims in the past 2 years. I said that's impossible and learned that while the insurance company was saying they were repairing the chips for free, they were putting a claim in my file. My rates did not go up with the Company in VA but they were basically "insuring" (pun intended) I wasn't going to change insurance companies any time soon! I'm still pi$$ed over that situation, the $150 of "free" rock chip repairs almost cost me thousands in hi-risk premiums!
