Hello everyone going to pick up my new 300c awd

hey guys and girls. I just bought my dad a brand new 300c awd and am really excited about going to pick it up on wednsday. We live in columbus ohio, and it was quite a task to find one here with all the options that I wanted, so I found one at a dealership in cleveland, ohio and will go pick it up in a couple days. It is black with a grey interior and has every option possible except the rear dvd system. My dad has always loved how this car looks, and as a kid I always promised him I would buy him a Ferrari when i could afford to. Well I still cant afford to get him a Ferrari(one day I will) but for now I think he will enjoy this.

I have a couple of questions....first off do you guys think that $39700 with all options except the rear dvd including tax and title is a great price? The dealership I am purchasing it from claims to be the 2nd largest chrysler dealer in the U.S. and can afford to sell cars below invoice. Next question is, are most of the bugs worked out in the 2006 models. My father is not a handyman at all and the last thing I want is for this car not to start on him when it decides, or to lean to the right, or wipers to work or not work when they choose. Also Should I be concerned about these issues since the dealer that I am purchasing the car from is 2 hours away? or can I take the car to my local dealer and still be covered under the warranty?

I know this is a long one for a newbiee, but any feedback will be appreciated. thank you
Momo

p.s. i dont know it this is the right forum to be posting this, so if its not then please let me know where to go. thanks again

They can sell below invoice because all dealers get 3% back after they sell the car. That's a minimum, then there are other incentives dealers get for hitting their quotas each month.

If they claim to be selling it below invoice, then they should be more than happy to show you the invoice. Don't let them use the term "invoice" to describe the window sticker (some dealers will try this) - - that is not the invoice. The true invoice will say "DaimlerChrysler Motor Company LLC Invoice" right at the top. Also if they are truly selling below invoice, then you should still get any rebate that may be in effect (I think it's $1000 now?) deducted from THAT price. some dealers will claim to be selling 'below invoice' but in reality they are selling the car for $800 over invoice, so that AFTER a $1000 manufacturers rebate the net amount is $200 below invoice.

Not to say that a price above invoice is not a fair deal; if it's somewhere between invoice and MSRP (like halfway) in my mind that's a fair deal. Just make sure they are honest with you.

You can get an idea of invoice by going to kbb.com and pricing out a vehicle with the options. There is some variance, especially if there have been price increases and/or because of advertising(roughly $400 to $500 not shown in the invoice at kbb.com).

Can you tell us the dealer's name? You can also look at dealer inventories through kbb.com, though it is not 100% accurate, because of the games dealers like to play with their inventories. Also, you need to know exactly which options the car has; HID, NAV, Protection Group, Walnut, Sunroof, etc.

And, what is the sales tax in OH?

Also, there may still be a rebate on the 300C; it was $1000(check with other dealers to see).

im so glad you guys wrote back. i was starting to think that since I was a rookie, I wouldnt get any love. the tax rate is 6.75. the car is a 300c awd with every option except the rear dvd wt.v....it has,Navigation plus SoundgroupII, Protection groupII, Power Sunroof, walnut woodgrain, high density headlights, u connect hands free, pwr pedals with memory, sirrus satelatie, smokers group. the dealership is brunswick auto. i just hope that there are no bugs in the car like what I have been reading about on the 2005 models particuallry the no start, tranny problem, and leaning to the right. anyway I think my dad will really enjoy this, and I have a feeling Im going to be on this site a lot, looking for new tricks for his beauty.

From what I can tell, that is a good price you got, if it includes taxes and title; and I am pretty sure that includes the $1000 rebate. The dealer will probably(but may not) slip in a few more dollars(50 to 200) for document fees and such. But, it still looks like a good deal.

I did look at their inventory(through kbb.com) and that car is not listed. I am guessing they either didn’t have it listed or they removed it for you sale(some dealers will leave sold vehicles in the inventory to try and pull in customers).

Now, a few other things to consider, so that you keep a good deal: financing, extended warranty, and maintenance plan.

First, have you looked into financing? If you have a good credit score, then you don’t want to over pay on financing(higher rates). If you go into the dealership with some approved rates in hand, it puts you in the drivers seat; knowledge is power.

Now, if I like the dealer, I will give them a change to meet my best rate; the dealers make money on the loans. If I don’t like them(playing games, hard sell, etc.), then they have to beat it. And sometimes, they will beat it anyway.

As for extended warranty and maintenance plans, first, you don’t have to get it from the selling dealer, assuming you want either of them. Second, you have up to 1 year or 12,000 miles to get it, without paying a charge, if you go with Chrysler’s Maxcare. As a personal opinion, I would stay away from aftermarket warranty plans, even if they are offered by the dealer(especially if the dealer is far away) as you cannot be certain if other dealers will accept the warranty(which means you pay first and try to get the money back from the warranty company).

You may want to consider getting your extended warranty and/or maintenance plan from a local dealer, to build a little good will, unless you plan on taking your car to Cleveland all the time.

But, before you buy any warranty or maintenance plan from a dealer, check the boards(use the search function and search on warranty) and the internet, to find the best prices on the Maxcare warranty(assuming you go with that). Again, having a verifiable number in hand is a great tool; dealers may not like it, but they will usually take little profit over no profit.

And, that is exactly what I did. I got my best prices on the warranty and a maintenance plan, found a local dealership I liked(they turned on my DRLs for free), and gave them the option of meeting my best price; and, they did.

Lastly, watch for the after sale add-ons: window etching, paint protection, stain guard, etc. Usually, those have outrageous mark ups. Again, search the forums and you will learn a lot; that is what I did.

thank you to everyone for the great feedback. I woke up bright and early today to get ready for the drive to cleveland to pick her up, but just as I was heading out the door, the dealer called and said that when they turned the car on to prep it that a check engine light came on and that they have to replace some module on it. I am trying to stay very optimistic, and am praying to god that this is not going to be the first of many problems. Ive never heard or seen a car that has 5 miles on it having a check engine light come on but ive also only owned german cars. Please reinforce me that this is a great car because I really do not want to give it to my dad if things like this are going to keep hapening. Im curious......if I would have went and picked it up and the check engine light come on while I was driving it, could I take that to my local dealer and have it covered under warranty, or would they expect me to take this car back to cleveland (2hrs away). thanks guys for all your help
