Exclamation Handy Forum-Use Tips For ALL Members

This board has many, many sub-forums. Here is a great shortcut to help you stay on top of what's going on each day:

Across the Top Menu Bar, you will see Active Topics(T)

If you click just on the (T) part, a list of Today's Posts will come up for the entire board with the most recent ones on top. If you have already opened a post it will grey out, so you won't waste time doubling back.

Don't miss out on another great post ever again.

...and if you cant find your way back to your last post or thread, just go to the home page under Online Users on the left side of the page, find your User Name, click it. This takes you to your profile page. Look for Find all posts/ threads by..., click on it. This takes you to all of your posts and threads so you can follow up on answers to your questions and more so you can find those interesting post that you have responded to. Remember this only takes you back to posts and threads that you replied to or threads you have started.

So cool! I've been keeping a list of ideas to include in a post just like this, Thanks NR for lighting the fire and leading the charge

GEN XER, there's even an easier way to reach that point than the one you described-
On the top Nav Bar at the top of the page, click "Quick Links" then click "Subscribed Threads"

"Quick Links" also instantly takes you to:
  • Todays Posts
  • User Control Panel
  • Private Messages (PMs)
  • Webmail (Premium User's email account)
  • Arcade (Gaming for subscribed Premium Users)
  • vBPicGallery (User photo gallery)
  • Supporting vendors

How to Include a Link in a post or PM

To include a link to a post in a PM or another thread:

Scroll to the top of the page and you will see a box with the Board-Forum-Thread info that looks like this for this thread...

Chrysler 300C & SRT8 Forums > 300C Discussion > General Discussion > Please respond!
Thread Title

The link or shortcut to the thread is the file folder icon that you see below.
Right click the icon > select 'copy shortcut' > then, in the new post or PM message body, right-click and select 'paste'.

Thread Title

Best Way to Use Search

The best possible returns on your search will come from using "Advanced Search"
Click 'search' on the Nav Bar, then click 'advanced search' below the 'quick search' box. This allows you to narrow your search by:
  • key words in posts
  • key word in thread titles
  • username
  • thread-starter username
It also allows you to narrow those parameters even further by:
  • threads with number of replies - at least/at most
  • posts based on timeframe, i.e. a week ago/ a month ago
  • sort posts in descending/ascending order based on relevancy, etc
  • showing results as threads or as posts
  • search ony one specific forum
Experiment if you don't find what you need...
Use more words, less words, different key word(s) and different search parameters.

Subscribe to Favorite Threads

When you find a thread that you would like to follow, but have never posted in, subscribing to the thread will help you do that.
A perfect example of a thread that almost everyone may want to subscribe to is ResumeSpeed's Complete List of All TSB's thread, so you never miss out on another update.

To subscribe, click "Thread Tools" just above the first post, then click "Subscribe to this thread".
This will add that thread to your subscribed threads list and you'll receive notice when there is a new post.

To check for new posts in your subscribed threads:
You can access subscribed threads whenever you wish from "Quick Links" on the Nav Bar... All of the titles that are bold in the list contain new posts since your last visit. To unsubscribe, simply place a check in the "instant" box to the right of the title and scroll down to the bottom of the page to select "Delete subscription"... if you have a number of threads to manage, you can handle them all at once in this screen.

To receive an automated notice for new posts in your subscribed threads:
One time only, go to "User CP" on the Nav bar - click "edit options" - scroll down to the 2nd module "Messaging & Notification - scroll to "Default Thread Subscription Mode" - set to "instant email notification". This will also subscribe you to any thread in which you make a post.... again, you may unsubscribe at any time.
The system will now send you an email when there is a new post in that thread... you will only receive one notice, despite the number of posts, until your next visit to the forums.
