close call for newbie

Hello everybody!

I picked up my beautiful inferno red 300 C HE a couple of weeks ago and really haven’t had a chance to play with it. My wife drives back and forth to work during the week while I get to drive nights and weekends. It’s kind of like one of those cell phone plans.

Anyway, this past Saturday night we’re cruising home in the left westbound lane on the Long Island Expressway. There was a lot of volume, about 35 feet separating the bumpers of all the cars and trucks in all three westbound lanes and the traffic was averaging about 63 mph.

A couple of vehicles ahead of me was an idiot with two huge sofa chairs in the bed of “his” pick up. I was about to exit so I was in the process of entering the middle lane when whamo- the two chairs went airborne and landed right side up, in front of me, spinning around like an amusement park ride and still zipping west.

They were weaving erratically from left lane to the right. It was like a video game. All I needed was an asteroid blaster on my steering wheel to clear the field.

I slowed down in the middle lane but all I could see were tractor trailers (images are closer than they appear) filling up my rear view mirror. I couldn’t tell what was in the right lane but I knew there were vehicles all around me. One chair stayed to the left and found a victim in the left lane while the other was running out of steam and was coming to a stop right in front of me.

Just before I kissed the big fat lazyboy with my sparkling new ride, (did I mention that I just got a shipment of Gary’s stuff the day before and I spent 5 hours detailing my baby that morning, great stuff by the way) I had to decide-- was I going to get flattened from the rear or was I going to get clipped from the right side and the front ( wish I ordered the 300 C cow-plow accessory).

I chose to go forward. I punched the gas and veered just enough to the right to avoid the right lane traffic and just missed grazing the chair on my left.

The guy behind me, I’m sure, was not so lucky since he was now about to greet the chair with a hell of a lot of activity behind him. It was all happening too fast. I flew off the exit ramp and didn’t have a chance to look back. My wife was extremely impressed. I was extremely lucky, blessed, fortunate- very happy.

Poured a big scotch several minutes later while sitting in my own big fat chair in my friggin’ living room where big fat chairs belong.

p.s. love the car- and this Forum!

WOW! Hate to hear that close a call with anyone, but with a new IR H.E.! Glad you had the kind of car that could make a quick move and stay in control... and that you're a driver with the skills!

HEY Welcome to the forum from our 300Cs in WV, one of which is a matching H.E. to yours! If you haven't run across it yet, I have a thread going to ID each H.E. owner and where they are in a Heritage Edition Build Sequence list. Please check it out and add your info if you will.

Also, show us some pictures when you can and let us know any way in which we can help you get the most enjoyment out of your awesome LX vehicle!

Wow, close call there RWBHCNY. Bet you didn't know you escaped because the shiny smooth surface made you slip through the air faster. Now how 'bout some pics once you get a couple of more posts under your belt. Congrats on your H.E. and welcome to the forums!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

No damage. Didn’t touch a thing.

I double checked the front, the sides and even my seat- all good.
