300C SRT8...first Chrysler I've owned

Hello all,

I'm new here. Finally glad I can post. It seems it took a week to get verified...ya'll must have a lot of trolls trying to post here.

Anyway, I just picked up a new (yes, new, never been titled) '06 300C SRT8 (Silver Steel). It was a dealer surplus car that "fell through the cracks", and had 15 miles on it when I test drove it. It doesn't have NAV (which I don't need anyway...cool to have, but I don't need it) or the Kicker sound system. It does have the rear DVD system and a sunroof (which may get used 2x down here in the heat of Texas). Anyway, I couldn't pass up the deal. Got it for low $30s... literally 12k off the original MSRP. Sure its one model year old, but the warranty just went into effect the day I drove it off the lot. The car is perfect, so I'm very pleased with the purchase. I am going to have the oil changed at ~300 miles, since its been sitting around for a year on the lot.

This is my first Dodge/Chrysler vehicle to ever own. I sure hope the experience is a good one. The car meets all of my needs. I have a couple of growing kids, and to this point my wife has been the only one who had a vehicle that would haul the entire family around. I have an '04 SVT Lightning truck (owned a '99 Lightning prior to it), and an '02 Z06...both are highly modified.

So I'm a speed junkie, and I am not sure what I'll do to this 300C. Maybe nothing. I have no complaints so far (only 170 miles on it now). The thing is tomb quiet inside, lots and lots of interior space, and the ride is excellent. Straight-line performance is solid. From the research I've done, it doesn't seem like there are a lot of choices regarding performance mods. The typical cat-back exhaust, mid-pipes, a K&N filter and beyond that it's a trip to Hennessey, I guess. ??? Still no PCM tuning available for these things? Maybe a 125hp shot of nitrous for those special occasions. The trunk is certainly large enough.

Ok, enough rambling. Thanks for listening, and I look forward to learning more about these cars from the folks here on this forum!

BTW, I should give some input as to why I chose this car. I researched and test drove a number of vehicles.

Mercedes C55 AMG... found several '05-06 models for high-30s, low-40s and under 20k miles. They were nice, but not as much room as the 300C...and not as fast either.

BMW M3...found several '04-05 models with under 15k miles for mid-30s. Again, too small for what I needed and 2 doors was not preferred. Since my wife will drive this car some, an auto is mandatory, meaning I could only get an SMG car (which is fine, but there aren't as many of them around).

Pontiac GTO... given that I am a big fan of the GM LSx motors, I liked this option. I like the interior. I could have picked up a new '06 model for $27-28k easily. 2 doors was not as good, and the exterior styling is not high on my list. Pass.

Audi S4... just didn't do anything for me. Very nice car, no doubt. Just doesn't have much personality.

Thus the choice as a Dodge Charger or 300C. It just fit my needs for this particular purchase. I didn't want to spend the $$ on an E-class Merc, 5-series BMW, and a Lexus was out of the question, too. For a family sedan, the 300C is a great combination of performance, roominess, and style. Ford and GM have nothing remotely close to this type of performance (SRT8) in the 4-door sedan segment. Easy choice.

Welcome WA 2 FST!!! I agree with you about getting the oil changed ASAP, BUT IMO the dealer should have done that for you. Matter of fact I'd insist they change it. That's a long time to be sitting around.

As for Hennessey, you might want to do some research here as to what others feel about that. I'm sure, especially you being from Texas and all, he's got some supporters down there, but there are many detractors too. You need to be aware of that.

Bernie,

They are going to do the oil change for free. I've put less than 200 miles on it, and haven't driven it really hard yet... couple of WOT bursts, but nothing sustained.

I agree about Hennessey... I said that tongue in cheek. They/he definitely has a reputation (and not the best, unfortunately). I've never done business with them. Too bad there isn't a Lingenfelter for DC vehicles. LPE is a first-rate, reputable tuner.

Well that's great they're going to do the oil change for free. It ain't a cheap deal either. I have an extended warranty that covers 20 changes over 5 years.

Yes, I've heard about Lingenfelter and I agree they have a good reputation. The problem is there's no tuning available to us and that's where GSM & Hennessey have run into problems IMO.

Wise choice

Welcome aboard WA 2 FST, you made the best choice in choosing your vehicle. Speed, style, roominess the SRT8 has it all and more, I wish I could have afforded one when I bought my Limited but I am happy with the Limited and plan on modding it out.

Rambit - I have an extended Chrysler warranty for my 2006 300c SRT8 too but I wasn't told about it covering 20 oil changes over 5 years. What type of warranty do you have?
