Purchasing a Previously Owned 300c, Advice?

I am glad I found this forum. I am a former 300M owner and am currently in a Volvo S70 T5. I want to get back into american iron and this forum has answered so many of my questions about the "new" 300 series.

I am plan on purchasing a used.. previously owned.. 300C. A 2006 model with low miles. I am in the Chicagoland area and there are a good number of them available. I plan on purchasing a Chrysler Certified vehicle.

It would be great if some current owners could give me some advice on some issues to look out for as I start test driving and reviewing vehicles.

Thanks in advance.

If you could find a singly owned 2005 (would be higher mileage probably), you would have the benefit of inheriting the 7/70k powertrain warranty. That's not available on an '06, and purchasing the lifetime powertrain warranty isn't available to second owners.

Ask the dealer to prove to you that all TSBs and such have been performed on the vehicle. Ask for a service history report... that generate some resistance and otherwise take some time because of privacy issues, but the privacy stuff can be redacted from the documents. Since Chrysler is certifying the pre-ownership, they should provide the service history.

Make sure it has new tires... resist accepting the Continenal Self-sealers if that's what's on the car. Start with at least GY ComforTread (the OEM rubber which followed the Conti's.

That's my thoughts for starters...

Thanks for the advice Tim.

According to the Chrysler website, purchasing a certified vehicle gives you the 8/80 Power train warranty ( Powertrain Warranty - Chrysler,Dode, & Jeep Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles ) and the ability to purchases a Chrysler Services contract. I am seriously considering the Chrysler Extended Service contract since I am buying a used, albeit certified, vehicle.

I am going to start a thread to see if anyone else has purchased this type of contract with Chrysler and if it lives up to its advertising.

I hope to be my 300C sometime after the Thanksgiving holiday. I am going to take my time finding the right one, I plan on keeping this car. It will be my personal "hot rod" even when I have something else shiny and new in the drive way.

Welcome to the forums, gmboot! I like the research you are doing before making the big decision. Tim offered you some good advice. Also, you might want to check out some warranty price info. in the thread below. Hope you have ownership by Thanksgiving as you mentioned.

Take this for what its worth,,,,I looked since the 300C came out in 2004 ,,,I loved the car at first sight,,,,looked and looked,,,,and then jumped after 3 years of watching....I bought a 2007 ,,,Black,,(color I wanted),,,300C for less than $30,000.00 on e-bay,,,life time warrenty on motor, trans.and rear end...3 year or 36,000 miles on rest of the car......... Everbody tells me I am WRONG,,,but I don't see it,,,,the cars I was looking at were all about $26,000.00 ...For $3000.00 more I got a 2007,,,I Know for sure what is wrong with the car,,,I have the lifetime warrenty,,,I got the exact car I wanted,,,,no miles,,,not 12,000 to 48,000... I am not being smart,,,prove me wrong on buying a new car....
