Well - another update on this "Lucky Eddie" car..............

On the way to work today - not got to very far (total of about 9 miles) and in a line of traffic about 10mph car cuts out with no warning and will not start. Turns over but absolutely no chance of re-starting

Waited h2:40mins for a RAC bloke to tell me that you need to get this back to the garage mate - no really????????

Garage (who carried out fuel pipe changes) says not a problem caused by the work we did must be something else, we will have a look and let you know

Starting to feel like "Lucky Eddie" is being taken for a very long expensive ride (I am a tool).

Does anyone have any pointers etc that I can say to the garage that will one help me understand what the hell is going on two, the fact that they should not try to rip off someone who clearly doesn't know the first thing about the 2 tonne lump of crapoloy?

The garage said the car has feed back that there are 6 faults all linked to a fuel issue mostly to do with a total lack of pressure?

Oh please speak in "stupid" so I will understand just what is going on and how much it may cost and how long it could take to fix

Car broke down again on Thursday

Went back to same independent garage for them to investigate

Turns out a pair of fuses in the boot had broken and caused a total lack of fuel supply/pressure to the engine (6 faults in total showed up)

Investigation and fix cost £70 notes fully inclusive and after the last bill was very relived.

However, when I asked the garage what had caused this unexpected event, all they could offer was "Don't know but at least it is fixed now"

Anyone have any polite suggestions about this as I now have a couple of spare fuses but am non the wiser about what actually caused the problem in the first place

I think I should sign in/out as "Lucky Eddie" from now on??????

P.S. Now all seems to be working OK (for now) this really is a sweet ride and still a fan (just)

Smile

A few days on now and some feed back for any who may have an interest.

The brakes are really very good and it really is like driving a different/new car

The fuses ( that have been replaced seem to be doing the job they were intended for but I am still non the wiser as to why they blew in the first place

The oil and the alternator are behaving themselves at this time and lets "hope" they continue to do so

So in conclusion - the jury is still out on the need for an "oil guard" but if you are having work done in the area, then get one anyway, it won't do any harm. If your dash lights flicker or dim slightly, this is one of the things you may wish to get checked out, as I think back - the dash lights may have been "flicking/dimming" then brightening up for a number of weeks/months previously to the complete failure of the alternator. If someone had said get it checked out - better to do this and have the answer "it's not the alternator" than to wait like I did until it failed and was beyond repair - just because I just did not know about the fuel pipes and possible oil split when having an oil service.

Hope this helps anyone who may have this issue but is not to sure of what may be causing it. It is not a guaranteed fault finding solution but just may save a few notes if tackled in advance.

Hi Olly, and welcome. Yup, had the same split pipe and ruined alternator as you just 2/3 weeks ago. My pipe happily only cost £8.87 BLUE SILICONE PIPE FUEL & OIL ELBOW 90 DEGREE 9.5mm | eBay and has the bonus of one of the offcut bits doing the adjacent hose for free - sort of. They do seem to absorb money like blotting paper but you grow to love them - I think its love anyway? regards Nick
PS. this wasn't a crow about the price of my pipe more an indication that with help from this forum you can keep the costs down. So you can better afford the other things that need repaired!!

Hi Nick - many thanks for this very useful tip. It really should be noted by other (like me) who are complete novices at this - (and I really do like my car a lot) that this information about the fuel pipe from e-bay is a real must - a big thank you Nick for this

Hello & Welcome from South Wales.
As this is an International forum you might get more response to any questions and problems if you post here>>> European & Diesel Powered 300 Models - Chrysler 300C Forum: 300C & SRT8 Forums
As I very rarely look at anything out of this section I only stumbled across your thread by accident and I am sure others do the same, HTH.
