Throttle body noise

Hi guys;

Newby here - so hope this is in the right place.

Played with the car today (2007 300c 3.5 V6) and had occasion to turn key to "ign" without starting...(have always gone straight to "start") - and heard a noise from the throttle body. It is like a "flap flap flap" - or "three clunks" noise. I removed the ducting and it is the noise of the butterfly valve opening and closing in a prescribed pattern very rapidly about three times - and it does it every time the key is turned on.

I've never noticed it before - so not sure if I've just never heard it - or if it has just started.

Is this normal? Or is there a problem? Car seems to run fine.

If someone could try theirs - or just knows - would be a relief to know!!!

Many thanks;

Ken H

I don't know anything about your problem sorry but you would probably get more response if you post it in the relevant place rather than New Member Introductions.
This may be better, http://www.300cforums.com/forums/v6-engines/

The only thing I hear when I go to Ignition On is my fuel pump pressuring up.

Great - thanks - it just seems very clunky for an up market car - can't hear it from inside so it's probably always done it.

My "Old" cars are all much cheaper to fix - so I am wary of this one........

Many thanks;

That a normal sound. As soon as you turn the key, the throttle body perform a self test and that where you hear the click.

Do not worry your car is doing good.

Fantastic! In new cars any "unusual" sound usually means "expensive"........

And this is the benefit of a forum like this - so many thanks.....

(Apologies for the "wrong place" I put this - still getting the hang of it)

Cheers guys.........

Every electronic throttle body will make click on start up. You kind of have to look for it to actually hear it. Everyone try it, pop your hood and cycle the key from outside the vehicle and you will hear it.
