Please Please Please - let's keep the signature area small.
I prefer that no pictures are allowed in the signature area.

It is so annoying to have see the same signature picture over and over.
Too often the pictures are too big and they clutter the screen and makes it difficult to distinguish between the thread and the signature.

Here is an example of an awful forum with huge annoying signatures.

I avoid forums cluttered with these huge signatures and pictures.

One of the most appealing looks of this forum is that pictures and banners are not allowed in your signature.

Like joey, I also avoid message boards where these things are displayed all over the place. They create a juvenile look to the whole board.

Joey has it right.

Joey, Chuck,

this is my first experience on a board or forum of any kind. I thought the policy was that we could have a visual avatar of 100 pixels square.

Certainly this board has to be visual. Many of the topics and threads deal with just that.

I am not clear on your concerns. Is it posting graphics in the body of posts? Is it bandwidth? Are some members finding that the visuals slow down their ability to browse the board?

If that is a major concern for many members, then perhaps only linked thumbnails should be allowed?

Any comments? Perhaps a poll is in order.

Northern Rider- The avatars are fine and so are posting pictures. No problem there.

It's in the signature where I have a problem. Text is fine there, but some people put blinking banners in their signature or pictures of their car or whatever. When you read threads, not only are these things distracting and boring for that matter, they detract from the "fit and finish" of the board. You see the same old tired thing, over and over and over again. Not cool in my book.

Take a look at joey's link and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Just my opinion though.
