You could fix it or do what I did and take the cash and wait to get hit again this winter

I have a friend that backed up into a tree four days after she bought her 300 touring. Damage was about $7000 and it took about four weeks to repair damage because she bought car when it first came out and parts weren't in stock yet. Three weeks after she got car fixed someone rearended the car. Now thats bad luck.

I backed out of my driveway and right into my garbage cans. Got some deep scratches on the drivers side in the back but no dent. Estimate is $300 to repaint. Hardly notice it so I will wait till spring to have it fixed. Oh well....

LOTHP, you have to imagine the car is made of jello. When it got hit the wheel well may have actually contacted the tire, then sprung back almost into shape. It may not have been severe enough to require straightening, but accept no less than back to brand spanking new condition.

When you find a top-notch shop, this goes without saying. I've had a couple of repairs done with a local shop and damned if I could find anything to complain about. Later on the owner had them fix some blemishes and trim gratis for a lease return. But you certainly don't want to become one of those people whose phone number they've memorized...

Pleased with GEICO?
Keep me informed.
Sure, they pay out - but then it'll be your turn, no? (rate increase??).
(Warren Buffet owns GEICO. I'm afraid the animated gecko is only a cute mascot.)

Yeah, and IIRC didn't they have a rather frequent run of turning down or dropping people shortly after tickets or claims??

Did I miss something there? Your rate doesn't go up but you lose your good driver discount? Whose pocket does the lost discount come out of???? My wife ran into a pot hole with her volkswagen beetle and damaged the oil pan. I paid the $250 deductible and the insurance company paid $750. So far it has cost me $2000 in lost discounts. Knowing what I know now, I would never have submitted a claim. The insurance company considers pot hole damage the same as running off the road and hitting a tree.
