Look guys, I crashed an airplane!

Last friday (3/10) I was up for a commercial training flight with my instructor when our landing gear failed and the right main wheel did not extend... Long story short, we ended up makeing a gear up landing, no wheels, we just set it down in the belly and slid down the runway about 500ft before we stopped. We had all the emergency vehicles at the airport rolling. It made for a pretty interesting day, we made the news and the front page of the paper here!

Here is the article...

Wow dude that must have really been a thrill ride. Congrats on getting through that one unscratched. So why did the landing gear fail? Glad you're here to tell us about it. I think I'll stick to the SRT8 thrill rides.

I never did like the landing gear on those Cessnas. Always looked awkward and unreliable. Worst I ever had to do was a flat tire landing on a fixed gear 172.

Glad to see everyone was ok. Nice job on the landing.

Thanks guys! I haven't been to the hangar all weekend but I will be there tomorrow and find out what exactly it was but they thought it was the pivot assembly that sheared. It's basically like a rack and pinion that is hydraulically driven to move the gear.

At first the 'oh ****' factor was pretty high but then by the time we actually went in for the landing we were calm and ready to be down because we were hungry and had to pee like no other I'd have to say we were well prepared and knew what we needed to do and what was going to happen. One thing we knew was gonna happen for sure was the beer at Ruby Tuesdays afterwards!!

And yes, Meister, I am sooooo ready for the summer!! It's been warm here last week (warm to me anyway 50 degrees). I'm ready to get the ride all cleaned up and detailed too!

Nice job, I have a friend who had a Mooney, and I have been promised some stick time, I need to take him up on it.
Just glad to see that you made it OK; looks like your instructor is pretty young. That's nice, he probably has great reflexes.
After a prop strike like that, that engine won't be flying more hrs. for while.

Thanks again and yeah with the prop strike they are going to have to tear it down and either rebuild or replace the engine. I'm sure that along with the prop, the prop governor is toast as well.

Model 57, definitely get that stick time! Free time is like gold!
