There is your really nice Aunt who you always love to see, and that one Uncle who's always angry/upset about something. There are those with good table manners and those that you swear you are not related to.
Reallly, what is the probability that you (or anyone) can go to a family get together and convince everyone in attendance to change their behavior? About 0% would be my guess.
This family (forum) compared to ome other families (forums) is a LOT more civilized than some others I belong to or have visited. Is it perfect? No. Am I perfect? No. From time to time, family (forum) members, myself included, have been overly critical, rude, unkind, harsh etc.... The moderators do remind us (privately) when we have crossed the line. I appreciate that they don't jump in too fast to shut down a thread. They typically give us a chance to resolve things on our own first, like adults. "When that fails then: Okay, all of you, go to your rooms!" (aka thread closed)
Your original point is a valid one, about "bashing". I agree that it is not enjoyable for me to read mindless, pointless, calling each other names crap. It's like listening to little kids bickering. At some point enough. Let it go. Move on for Pete's sake. And, if you are here often enough, it is obvious that the vast majority of threads and posts are of a positive nature. This really is a place where 5,000+ car fanatics exchange ideas and information in a mature respectful manner.
I for one, am very grateful for this forum and all of the info I have gotten, and the friends that I have made. To those who I have offended along the way: I am sorry, I didn't mean to be an ass. To those I have helped or entertained: Your welcome! To those who are going to the biggest Family Reunion in this family's history: Is it 3/25 yet!

Eloquently put Dan! For my short time here I have never witnessed any particularly heavy handed character assasinations. Yes there have been some heated discussions, and one or two members have been left in no uncertain manner about how the forum feels, but for the main part no probs! I have seen one thread where a member was heavily criticised but those doling out the criticism were, in the main, adult in their comments.
There has certainly never been an instance where I have been offended or felt compelled to leave.
This is not always the case when I visit a workshop canteen where the masses can become quite vocal in their opinions. When the fur starts to fly a little and I feel uncomfortable in the surroundings, I make my point and then I leave!
What I don't do is pop back 5 minutes later to see if the tide has turned....
