Well, if you were asking what to do to an SRT-8 this forum is place....Since you're asking about a Porsche I would think their forums would be more help.

Whatever floats his boat, it's amazing what Porsche can do with that odd geometry with the engine hanging off the back. I had an old '75 911 once and it was a fun car to drive, but it sure attracted the police with ticket books in hand. I guess it's something that you want to have once in your life.

The engine and transmission area is quite constricted so it's hard to do much modding, I would think. This car has been over 30 years in development so I doubt that many easy useful mods are available. I think that part of what you're paying for is the pinnacle of development that the car has reached.

If I were going to spend $80,000 or so now on a sports car it would be a used F360 or F550 Maranello. But that's just because I haven't had an F-car yet.

All kinds of upgrades and addons for the Carrera. The first one, though, is to take it to a track for a day of driver training. They are sweet cars but can really bite you in the bum when you least expect it!

A friend of mine just got one last year, before he found out what HEMI C can do . . . http://www.300cforums.com/forums/pic...ck-almost.html

About $10,000 to $12,000 will get him a centrifugal supercharger kit and about 125HP. Starting with 325HP for a 911 or 355 with a 911S that's a pretty potent package. To bad their so frigging expensive, I'd love to have one too!

There's a lot of stuff out there for Porsche, much of it is made by Porsche themselves (what model year is what he got?). Names that come to mind immediately, Gemballa, Techart, Ruf, Autothority, bumperplugs.com (hehe, well thats not really modding, but it kinda is, cosmetically at least).

BTW, I found a lot of dud porsche forums before I found one that's any good. I'll save you some time. forums.rennlist.com (the homepage is rennlist.com) is the only one worth a hoot (and its a pretty good one).

.1 according to the books or the mags? Porsche tends to understate their cars. Mags were getting 4.6 0-60 in the 02 996, so I'm guessing a 997 should be a little faster. According to my dad who's owned both (I have yet to go home so I haven't driven the 996), it would be quite a trick to beat a 02-04 996 (or 997) in the SRT8. He seems to be of the opinion that the Porsche is noticeably faster.

True. But it sure would be fun to find out. Plus I bet your dad will be really suprised how fast his 996 really is, in a race like situation. But even more suprised that a 4000 lb + sedan, is staying in the game. Your dad is the type of car owner that I want FreebirdSRT to go after. The high end import market. I have run against american muscle for so many years, been there done that, zzzzzz, lol. I would rather see the looks on a guys face who has spent double and more than the cost of my SRT and the entire time he looks over at me, I got that familiar poop eating grin again. Heck I may get dusted by him, in the end. But I bet he will give the due respect the SRT is due next time one rolls up on him.

$39,920 got me my ticket of admission to the best bang for my buck and all beautifully wrapped in a 4 door saloon no less. Sedan-man Mark gets to ride again.
