That's very impressive. I have to be honest, I've NEVER heard of an IRS car doing 7.90's. Got and more info on this? I thought the fastest IRS cars were in the high 8's at best.

Not many Getrag 6-speed trannies "grenade". The R34 Skyline actually runs the same trans, and both RWD and AWD applications have held up to numerous launches even when using a two-step, anti-lag system, and 7000-rpm launches. The ZF 6-speed is also a stout unit. I have a TON of experience modifying C4 Vettes (back when they were "cool"). Apart from the nasty noises made when switching to an aftermarket flywheel, the ZF trans was a mule.
I have no experience and can't speak to it, just what I've heard from an owner I spoke to not long ago. We were out cruising in my buddies mustang and ran into a beautful Supra. He had just pulled into his driveway and started talking to us about people swapping their 6 speeds out for...I believe he said...Linco 3 speeds because people keep blowing them up. Maybe he's wrong, I dunno. I hope he's wrong because if I ever bought a Supra I would like to mod and keep the 6 speed for the street/track.

Bought my 68K-mile stocker in 2001 for $20K even. Deals are out there...

A clean Supra in stock form for under $30K is still a great deal. You get a WAY over-built GT-class sportscar that will live forever. The car pulled .98G back in 1993 with 17" all-season tires. 4-piston 12.8" brakes that have held 60-0 stopping distance records since they were introduced. A virtually bulletproof rear diff that doesn't need to be upgraded until you run 9-second ETs. Not to mention the sexy curves and exclusivity of the car.
I guess you're right. You do get a lot for your money. They've been proven to be strong AND reliable. I've actually never ridden in one, so if you're ever out at a meet or cruise-in somewhere during the summer drop me a PM and I'll shoot over. I'd love to at least see it and/or maybe get a ride.

When my car was stock, I added an air intake, and catless downpipe and 3" exhaust. Turned the boost up to 20psi and ran 12.40 ETs on 18" tires and unleaded gas. Cheap, cheap, cheap.
GOTTA LOVE BOOST!!!

Expensive? Yep. I can afford it, and there won't be too many other 9-second cars that can also burn through corners and drive around with the a/c blaring, and all the while deliver Toyota reliability while idling like a kitten. It is expensive, but I will always own the car, so who cares.
Yep, if you've got the money man I say GO FOR IT!!! I wish I did, but then again I could if I sold 2 of my cars. We'll see. Right now I'm holding out for a slightly used Shelby in 2 or 3 years. I might be a Supra convert as I've always like them, just never got a chance to test 'em out, and I NEVER see them at the track (Byron dragway is where I hang out.)

It is funny to challenge trailered V8 cars running full drag suspension to a street race and have them back down. They never used to be afraid of Jap rice rockets...
That is funny. I guess it's what it's built for. My buddy with his Mustang with full race suspension, no radio, no A/C, crappy brakes and only 392RWHP will STILL go high 10's. He's always saying how jealous he is of my great handling, great brakes, sitting in air conditioning in my car at the track while everyone is sweating their arse off, but I have to remind him, you haven't spent as much money as me and you're going 10's ya bonehead.

Supras ROCK! I wanted one badly when I couldn't afford it but it fit my lifestyle. Now that I can afford it, it doesn't fit my lifestyle.

I remember reading in R&T or C&D or one of those mags about a Supra with a minimal suspension mod wasting Ferrari's best, at that time.

Matt,

You are welcome to drive the Supra when she's done. The first thing you will notice is how amazingly comfortable they are! Much roomier and comfy interior than any Vette or Viper.

If you make it up to Byron, my friend and I usually race his 12-second Jag XJR there. He owns a business that caters to Jag mods, and he is the only mechanic I let touch my cars. He knows I am picking up an SRT-8, and he will be the one performing all the mods to it.

He would love to get a good video of his modded Jag running a 300C at the track. See you there!

You're on! Definitely send me a PM when you go to the track. I'd love to run one also, those XJR's are mean! I have a 20 year old punk friend (cool guy really) that has a Fox body w/ ~725HP he's gonna spray with a 250-300 shot. We're gonna be there a lot this Spring.....frickin 20 year olds.

I'll tell you what....With 1000HP I'll just let you drive and sit in the passenger seat ....If I'm not scared too much I might take the wheel.
