Insurance question

On three cars I can save $242 or 16% by switching insurance companies to AIG. My current company for 6 yrs has been good through two comp claims (deer and hail damage). what would you do switch or not. The rate is an exact comparison. My current company could raise rates based on the hail $3600 though they say they don't for comp claims.

I have AIG they seem to have lower rates than anyone else I can find. I havent had a claim but I have had their insurance for a long time.

Thanks for the input, AIG is the first company to beat my rate at Unitrin direct (formerly Kemper/Reliance direct). I am almost certain to switch.

Do you have any kind of package deal for all your stuff? I mean, house, multiple car, etc. with the same provider? Bundling them has helped with my premiums over the years.

Every State has a little different insurance rules/regs. I would shop home/auto together as most co's give discounts on both policies if they have both, and you usually can't go wrong with the larger companies. Check out their ratings on claims.

Comp claims (unless you have a bunch of them, shouldn't effect your premium, so by them saying they could raise it but won't is bs on a comp claim, they could raise your deductible or drop the comp coverage, but not the premiums).

It used to be that if you were insured with a co. for a long time, that WOULD make a difference in the event of a claim or 2....no longer. You have an at fault or ticket and you can kiss your a+ premiums g'bye - 2 incidents, and they will drop you like a rock (my dad was w/a great local co. for 30 years - 1 speed and 1 at fault, they dropped him).

Also (former agent talking) READ your policies and make sure you know what is and more importantly...what is NOT covered. I can't begin to tell you how many people think they have "full coverage"...sorry, but there is no such thing as "full coverage".
(...end of rant)

I know what you mean II, I didn't think going to a big name company would actually save me money, but just like 57 said most places would give you extra discounts for the bundled packages...

In my case, I have the house with All State and they just recently offered me a rate I could not pass up, its 40% LESS than what I was currently paying... I could not believe it, no one else came even close, even though AIG (My retirement company) claim they can beat all state by $2xx a year...

Notice something though, someone told me to be careful on hard to beat deals... they said some insurance companies are being snakes and what they do is attract you with a low rate and then make it go up on the renewal... even if that's case, at least take advantage of the low rate now...

I have had AIG for several years and always shop around at renewal time. They still have the lowest rate. The only claim I had was for a cracked windshield and everything was done by phone. I once had Progressive and they were also reasonable but I discovered AIG was cheaper. I bought Progressive via internet which is about $200 cheaper than dealing with a local agent. Once you deal with a local agent, your name gets on their list and you may not be able to buy via internet. Also found that insurance is not especially high for the C compared to previous cars.

Thanks for the input guys, my brother jumped at a low rate with AmExpress, they did everything by phone, asked the three and five year history etc, he paid by credit card to start everything. When the paperwork came they had seven year history questions and raised the rate when he disclosed a wreck 6.5 yrs earlier. Needless to say he cancelled immediately and was refunded, they had absolutely no response or apology when asked about the bait and switch as if to indicate it's the way they do business.
