New vehicle road trip

What do you guys (a unisex term now to include girls) think about taking a brand new car on a 1K road trip before "break in". Most manuals say don't use CC and to vary speeds for the first 500 miles or so, and some limit on maximum speed. I have always liked to put several hundred miles on a car before a road trip though I have no scientific reason to do so.

Depends on what you consider a road trip...if you are talking about a straight highway run of 1000 miles I can see your point. If this trip covers 1000 miles, but has various stops, lunch breaks, side trips to see sights, etc. then you ARE varying speed anyway. I won't touch 'maximum' speed (in case you consider limits to be 'suggestions' as I do ).

460 miles with stops each way, I am going to go for it. The Odyssey manual calls for no WOT for 600 miles and that's about the only major restriction, no limits on speed, cruise etc. Interestingly they must use a break in oil because they DO NOT recommend changing the first oil before the scheduled time. I snuck this odyssey talk in here because of is shared spirit with the C both being the only cars in the US with MDS.

Please clue the clueless in. Do you or do not have to change the oil in a short time period when breaking the engine in before 3,000 miles
