I think it's Chase specific. Other companies I've dealt with Captial One, MBNA, if you don't activate, the card is no good.

yeah i got caught by them..its a russian gang fraud thing. A WORD OF CAUTION,..if you send your credit card number through email..ALWAYS delete the send message from your email (under messages sent or something like that) so no one can hack in to get it. it happened to me..

Thanks HEMEE and others for those well wishes. I use a cross cut shredder for EVERYTHING, this fraud charge was on a card not used in over a year sitting in a box in my closet. Good points James on the emails. I have cancelled all the high limit cards now working on smaller cards. I had cards that expired in 2002 with activation stickers still on, same cards with 04-06 exp with stickers and ALL accounts were STILL OPEN, Providian, First USA., Citi, Chase, not one said you failed to activate and the account was closed. I had numerous cards, I am ashamed to say how many. I had a good thing going with several companies with 0% money on cash advances and transfers, at one point I had $115,000 of 0% credit card money in my tax free money market generating $250-300/month! Thats over $3000/year folks and I would pay them monthly with thier own money, what a country, God Bless America! PS just closed the Lowes card Exp 4/01 with the sticker still on, never activated but still an open valid account.

Had the wife call me on my 800# at work and it came up private on the CID. Maybe big companies do get around this.

Oh for interest rates like that again...but wait, that also meant higher mortgage rates, car rates, etc. Hmmmm....just can't win.

I get 0% interest on my one card (Visa) and it's simple, pay off your balance each month.Works wonder and I use their money for 30 days.

You're so right, that's my M.O. as well! That's why I love my AmEx... no interest if PIF each month... AND better than cash in many cases: incl. insurance for trips and rental cars, dbl. mfr. warranty for big ticket items, some items like cameras are even insured against theft and damage for 90 days.
