Here's the latest update on Jamie.

She's still in ICU and may be in for 3-5 days under observation. The CT scan looked good, but the neurologist called it a minor stroke, ischemic in nature (not a TIA). It was likely caused by a blood clot and in young people, that can be caused by a VSD...a hole in the heart. The hole can sometimes get clotted up and occasionally it breaks loose and this is one possible scenario/result.

She is moving her fingers and left arm, but can't yet lift her leg. Her mom reports she's being her sassy self, so that's a GREAT sign!! The doctor asked her to participate in a trial/test and she agreed. It's a synthetic snake venom that prevents blood clotting and is still in trials. It won't hurt and may even help and Jamie agreed that even if it doesn't help her, it may help someone else. What a kid...

II Kings, I'll look into that, thanks!

Tomorrow is a day full of tests, full body contrast MRI and who knows what else. I'll certainly keep you all posted. Thanks for all your prayers!! God Bless you all....

Bob & Rosana
Bob,

If it turns out to be a hole in the heart, rest assured a full recovery is possible. New England Patriot LB Tedy Bruschi, known hereabouts as "Full Tilt, Full Time", suffered a stroke as a result of a hole in his heart. Bruschi is a huge fan favorite in New England and we all feared his playing days were over. But he's made a complete comeback and is playing as well as ever. Here's a link to one of the stories about the medical aspect: http://www.medpagetoday.com/Cardiology/Strokes/tb/2082

Rick
Rick, thanks! That's incredible stuff. I remember hearing about that.

I spoke with Jamie this morning. Her mom snuck the phone in ICU for a min so we could hear each other's voices. She's strong and a fighter and she'll beat this. She's getting a full body MRI this morning, actually right now they're starting. I'll probably be heading up there tonight or tomorrow AM and heading back on Saturday.

On top of everything, we're closing up shop here and moving to DC next Friday! At least we'll be closer to the kids and can be there faster when things happen.

Smile Jamie's Update

Thank God for hearing all of your wonderful prayers!! The good news is that Jamie is out of ICU and in her own room.

They did a whole battery of tests today and my ex didn't get all the results yet, but it's looking pretty good. She's moving her left hand and arm a bit, but still can't walk. She'll have some time in rehab, for sure. I spoke to her on the phone and she sounds good. Not completely paralyzed on the side, sort of just numb in some areas. The next couple days will tell a lot.

I'll update as we hear more, but thanks to your prayers and the grace of God, she's doing well!

Bob,
This is such a great news! I'm glad Jamie is progressing quite rapidly and that things are looking very good in the long run. You gotta love the prayers and those little miracles!

All this and June is Stroke Month. This can happen to anyone at anytime regardless of age.

My sentiments exactly, and as Rambit pointed out, a stroke can happen to anyone, at anytime, irregardless of ones physical condition and/or health status.

Although mine resulted from a training incident (long painful story), when it hit, I was in excellent physical condition for my age and I was strong, lean, and healthy - looking much like my current avatar....sans the mustache, goatee, and cane of course.

My wife Candy has already assisted me down that confusing and arduous road, so we've learned many things along the way. If I or Candy can be of any help during this trying and confusing time, then we'd be more than happy to offer any help and/or suggestions...remain strong my friend and our thoughts are with you and with your daughter.
