Hrmmm I'll tell ya all I know about these:

1. It looks as if the "floor" in each stall is "solid", so the car above won't leak onto yours

2. If those suckers can hold phaetons or touaregs, they can certainly hold 300s.

3. Yep, that aint public parking, however there are public examples of these things in some places where yes, you park your car, get out, press some info on the machine (payment or whatever), it gives you a ticket, and then takes your car for you.

When you come back, you wave said ticket and the machine fetches the car. Some systems literally move ALL the cars to do this and some just do it the style that VW tower works *nod*

http://www.robopark.com/articles/ultimate.htm

Here's a few more examples of said system.

Gotta hand it to VW though, even their dang assembly line looks aesthetically pleasing, lol.

If only thier cars were as well put together as the plant, everyone I know with a VW with more than 50K has lots-o-problems.

I am looking at that specific lift. IT won't hold a 300 without dinging it. Our cars I think are just a tad longer that the touregs anyway.

Was in Germany, and rolled up on one of those VW's... Them be ittle bitty cars. Nothing a TRUE MICHIGAN MAN would be seen dead in.

I think the two first "promo" pics of the lift are made while testing the computer system back in 2003, loaded with random VW cars.. now, the glass tower stores brand new phaetons:

Phaeton (ugly)
length: 5055 mm
width: 1903 mm

300c (niiiice)
length: 5015 mm
width: 1880 mm

and both have the same weight...

so if the phaeton fits, the 300c will fit as well

They still make Phaetons outside of the US? Cool! Personally I think they're damn cool (even if not that great looking in some ways) especially for the price, albeit I'd probably take an Audi S8 over one. [Yeah, twice the price of an SRT8 and the same performance lol]

VW owners, OTOH, can be a bunch of pompous snobs - there are even GTI owners convinced their 7 second buggers are faster than our cars.

*hides* Then I got really mad when I came across this from the same group of nuts that kept telling me to buy a TL instead of a Passat..

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2595096

(Biggest deal breaker, btw, was that the gas pedal was too close to the brake pedal lol. Well, that and the interior was so cheap it made the 300's interior look like a real bentley)

I believe they have these in Japan. A couple of friends just came from Yokoska speaking of this. Maybe a member from Japan will chime in.

The Phaeton is THE used car bargain, only 800 sold in the US. Price has gone from $65K new to $28K used in a year.
