What incredible engineering. Would never have parking problems again. I can see those parking towers being very useful in Europe and esp. Japan where 7/8th of the island is mountainous. Space is a premium there.

Could you imagine owning a couple of those babies. For such a small parcel of land the tower is on (less land taxes) vs. the number of cars you can get in the tower. Either Hourly, Daily or Monthly rates. $$$$$$$$

Those are great but somewhat scary pictures. Gives a whole new meaning to valet parking. I'll bet those cars never end up with dings and dents or human confrontations! I wonder if there is anything like it here in the U.S..

I wonder if it would hold a big ol' Hemi 300, those little fuel sippers look pretty small.

I think it would hold the length of our 300's. There seems to be several VW Toureg's in the spots. Little sipper's just happen to be on the loading arms.

I agree with Bruno it would be nice that you would not get door dings, curious pass-er-by's wanting to look in the windows, etc.

It would be nicer if they allowed you to load your own car on the loading arm yourself. Then they take it from there.

It would seem a lot more secure from car thieves. Unless they feel they have the time to break in, turn on the loaders and start plucking cars from there spots. I don't think so.

Sorry, all I can see is a structure that, during an earthquake, collapses and pancakes down to the ground. Ouch! Man wasn’t meant to stack cars on top of one another. We should still be wearing loin clothes and living in caves. At least that is what brother bruno tells me.

Those pics remind me of a Thunderbirds episode where they parked cars the same way. Can't remember the name of the episode. Man, I miss those Thunderbirds. Just love that show.

this is not a public parking lot. the pictures are from the "Volkswagen Glass Manufacture" in dresden, germany, where they build the butt ugly VW Phaeton.
when you buy a phaeton, you can pick it up right from the factory and watch how the robot will search your car in the glass tower. the production line is also exposed to visitors.. glass walls everywhere..

wikipedia entry with more pics

VW glaeserne manufaktur dresden homepage

now you know why VWs and audis are so expensive
