Thinking Solstice GXP or Saturn Sky Redline....

...To replace my aging Dakota pickup truck as a daily driver.

For one I don't need a pickup anymore. I'm done hauling crap...especially for other people which is what ends up happening.

The pickup gets 14mpg IF I'm lucky and sucks for handling (bumpy....very bumpy)

The 300 has utility with it's 5 seats and huge trunk anyway.

My friends are already ragging on me that it's "a chick car." and I tend to agree with them somewhat....But in the respect of 2 seater open top roadsters, you wouldn't call a Shelby Cobra a chick car. (Not that it's just like a Shelby Cobra, but still....it's fast and a 2 seater roadster just the same.)

I can't think of a more fun car to tool around in than a $26k convertible that with MINOR mods can be just as fast as my SRT-8. Besides, I'm moving to the big city (Chicago) within the next year and small cars are VERY necessary to fit into parking spaces.

Check it out:

"At the height of the summer solstice, Pontiac today announced that the turbocharged 2007 Solstice GXP will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $25,995, including a $600 destination charge. The 260-horsepower roadster arrives in Pontiac dealerships this fall.

Powered by GM's new direct injection, turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec engine, the Solstice GXP adds a 47 percent boost of power to augment the road-gripping performance and seductive styling already available in the base model roadster."

P.S. The Sky redline will have the same of everything that the GXP will.

"Pretty" looking car, for a chick that is...haha. I've seen a few of them in town and seriously they are nice. I read about the turbocharged Solstice and it sounds impressive. Go for it Matt.

Actually, I don't find these chickish anywhere near as much as Miata's. There's some nice lines on both. I've seen both in person. Soltice is more rounded where the Sky is sharper. All depends on your tastes I guess. I'd drive both in a heartbeat and I'm not too girlish!

I absolutely agree with everything you just said...I like both cars and would drive both. I'm leaning more towards Solstice though because it's $2k cheaper than the sky. Not sure why that is considering they're the same car but I'll find out.

I also HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE Miata's....I always have. Total wussy girl car. Even the new Mazdaspeed has testicles of the same size and proportion of hamsters' testicles. No thanks.

The GXP should see 5.0 0-60 times easily.

Um an average hamster is about 4 inches long. You might have a medical condition if yours are the size of hamsters.

You know what I meant. See my edit for clarification.

But seriously, I've seen these cars around and they do not look "girly" IMHO. Now the Miata on the other hand...

The only thing I don't like is what they look like with the top up....Kinda goofy IMHO, but I think I could get over it. Besides, it will give me an excuse to keep it down where it's supposed to be.

Yup, I agree. The only one's I've seen here were driven by guys and none of them looked girly. Nice car.

Same thing was said about the Mini Cooper when it came out (I didn't like it AT ALL)

All the none s/c models are driven by women and the Mini Cooper S models are driven by men....Go figure.

My ex had a mini and I actually grew to like it. It would make a great city car. it's just not as fast or as sexy as the solstice/sky.

P.S. Who in their wildest dreams ever would have though Saturn would have come out with a cool car?! Inconceivable.
