I woke up to a very raw looking deck. Last night’s party saw many people jumping and dancing on my large deck. So much so that my deck is looking a little rough around the edges. It was a good thing that I read your post on proper deck protection or the raccoons surely would have nibbled on my deck through the night.

One of my friends has a beautiful collie that loves to lick spills on my deck. The funny thing is the dog just won’t stop licking my deck when the spill is gone. I finally have to tell him “bruno, now enough is enough stop licking my deck or you’re going to rub the wood raw!”

Yes, I sure do know all about those people who are deckless. When I was down at the Home Depot the dude that works there said they all have deck envy. He told me they come into that store sniffing around everyone’s decks. Asking every guy they see how big their decks are. He told me that they’ve had actual fist fights when one of the deckless ones offers to work on another man’s deck. You know some men don’t like another man even looking at their deck not alone touch it. Unlike the attitude our friend bruno takes towards another man’s deck. If the dude’s deck is in his face he’ll reach out and feel the deck to make sure the wood stays nice and firm. I just hope he doesn’t offer to work on another man’s deck at the Home Depot.

Some of my guests on my big deck last night mentioned they saw Uranus. Now that is one nasty looking place, Uranus. They say Uranus is made up of smelly gas and large rocks. I don’t know how they could expect anyone to live in Uranus. One of those deckless dudes in an act of desperation offered to help me see Uranus, but I just couldn’t get everyone off my big deck in time. So I missed seeing Uranus last night. Bruno called me a while ago and offered to show me Uranus, but you know how he gets when he looks at Uranus. All this embarrassing talk of his days in prison hoping against hope to see Uranus. He is always on his knees looking at Uranus, so much so I’m going to order him a set of knee pads.

I’ve decided to try one of those deck enlargement kits I’ve read about. Actually it was bruno that told me about deck enlargement. I know my deck is already the biggest in the neighborhood, but you know what they say….bigger is always better when it comes to decks! I wonder how the deck enlarger kit works. I’ll have to call bruno and ask him if he has had much success with deck enlargement since his is so small.

Us Aussies have it bad, white ants, termites, all kinds of things can eat into your deck, and it's really upsetting. A lot of people these days are upgrading to steel and concrete decks. Very strong, hard and firm. The latest technology means your deck can be made of steel and not be too heavy, which means you don't have to go to extra-long lengths to keep it up. It also means it can be bigger without balance issues.

It can be a little frustrating though, having a steel deck protruding all the time, it's a little harsh on the eyes and some people find metal to be a bit too hard. I don't mind, and a lot of people like my steel deck. What I like best is that it won't go soft nearly as fast as wood.

Honestly, trying to read through the posts and figure out which animals and "friends" to have on your deck. Not to mention the correct size of the deck to make sure it's firm and sturdy, what "bushes" are good to have near your deck et. al. makes a man ponder. I mean, I always thought it was good to have a "beaver" on your "treated deck" but that prompted me to wonder if the beaver would chew through the protective covering and damage your wood? Or perhaps having too many "beavers" on your deck at any one time could damage the intergrity and enjoyment. Maybe perhaps, the true measure of a man would be how wisely he used the amount of wood given to him to sustain a hard deck that could withstand intense "moisture" over years of use. I'd say, treat your wood before using it to build a deck that can withstand the strongest beaver attack, withstand intense moisture, withstand hours and hours of use, one that's level enough not to let the guests roll off if they became fatigued, one that the neighbors would be envious as it stands upright under pressure and a deck that gives hours of pleasure to the one you love.

You really have to be careful these days with Beavers on your deck. So many of them are disease carriers that’s it’s really hard to find a nice clean Beaver these days.
