I solved that problem by wintering in Mexico. Down there, my deck was the centre of attaction for my new friends.

I do have to admit, though, when I came back up to the 'somewhat thawed out' frozen north, I did have a precocious porcupine that constantly kept trying to chew on my deck. I had to be careful as those quills can be quite *****ly!

No problems yet with the cuddly little beavers, however.

Sadly it did end in a very serious case of dry rot….so serious that it cost him his life while attempting to salvage his massive deck.
