Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

So, yesterday being Canada Day and all, along with the Birthday celebrations of my landloard and his Dad, my kids and I were invited to a huge party for these occasions. It was a very impressive formal event that had people from all over the world, Federal, Provincial & local government officials including the mayor of London. There were 2 billionaires and probably several millionairs there as well. My landlord is the largest property owner in London and City Council appear to be at his beckoning call. He's done a lot here in the 18 years since he came from Israel. His fireworks display far surpassed the City of London's too. My store is below his office and we have a very close relationship.

The above is just to set the stage for the cars you'd expect to see at an event like this. So many MB's, BMW's and the like that they were commonplace. I took my truck cuz it was supposed to rain...haha. One car stood out from all the rest though. It was the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren! This is a $600,000 car! That's only about 10 fully loaded 300C SRT8's in Canadian dollars...haha. The owner is from Toronto and his licence plate is 1ST SLR. I have no idea if it's the first production car or not, but the owner waited 3 years for it. I spoke with the head of his insurance company and he said you don't want to know what he pays for insurance. No doubt it high though!

I didn't know anything about this car, so I did a little reading on it. VERY IMPRESSIVE, like High-torque V8 compressor engine with 460 kW/626 hp output, 0-62.5 in 3.8 seconds, top speed of 208 mph. Here's just one link... http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm...the-technology

What I would give to have a car like this! And here's some pics I took, but it was too dark and I had to adjust the light making the colours a little off:

Chrysler competition?

Rambit that's a car I can only dream about. Anyway, not to rain on your parade, but it seems as if Chrysler were coming up with a supercar of its own using a V12 designed by AMG possibly for Mercedes and/or McLaren. I read about it on the allpar website, it's called the ME412. According to the website, unfortunately the project was cancelled in early 2005 (pressure from Mercedes) but speculates that because of movements in management, the project might be resurrected after all. I'm not too sure about this forum's rules about linking to other websites, so I hesitate to link to it but have a look.
