He will be sorely missed. Red Wings hockey will never be the same again. Hockey itself will never be the same again.

Yzerman departs after collecting 1,755 points -- sixth all-time in the NHL -- in 1,514 career games, all with the Red Wings....plus 3 Stanley Cups!

Definitely a class act.

For sure! I grew up in Windsor, and was a Red Wing fan from the first time I listened to Bud Lynch on the radio. That must have been around 65 or so. Half of that time spent as a Wings fan, Yzerman was part of the team. It will seem quite odd with him not there, and not being told he'll be back from his xxx injury in 2-3 weeks. That guy was class from start to finish.

On a brighter note, Shanahan is gone though, that makes me smile . That guy was nothing but a waste of skin for the last 5 years.

Shanahan was no spring chicken, but he put up some decent #'s last year 81pts in 82 games. And for $4mil, a pretty good bargain.
