Thumbs up Brampton To Build 30,000 Challengers Yearly

Chrysler will use its Brampton, Ontario plant to build 30,000 Dodge Challengers per year, according to a report by Canada's Globe and Mail. The report confirms previous rumors that the Challenger would be a relatively low volume model, with a limited number of configurations. The Brampton plant currently builds all Dodge Magnum, Charger and Chrysler 300C units. With sales of those vehicles slowing slightly, there will be room for production of the Challenger. In April, a published report indicated that the car would be offered as a V8 manual-only configuration. Chrysler's strategy contrasts with GM's plan to sell 100,000 Camaros annually, in both V8 and V6 configurations. Yearly production of the Ford Mustang is even higher — 192,000 units in 2005.

I think they jumped the gun , we have heard nothing about who is going to build this car. You would think we would be the plant but we will have to wait till DR Z tells us .

How ya doin' grunt!!! I bet it would be good news for you guys if it turns out to be true. With sales of the 300's slowing, it would keep the plant running probably at full capacity. What do you think?

Funny, but this month's Road & Track quotes Bob Lutz saying GM will need to sell 100,000 new Camaros a year to make the project work financially. They are going to rely on heavy sales of a V6 base model. I'm glad to see the Camaro return, but I think they're kidding themselves if they think they can sell 100k units.

The nice thing about the Challenger is that it can be built on the LX line. That means you can make 50,000 of them and still make a profit. So really, there is just the added costs for running the different parts/configurations. When you dedicate a plant to make Camaros, you better build a lot of them!

Which makes all the more sense to build them in Brampton then.
