Lightbulb Who has noticed those "TRUTH" commercials on TV?

This topic will probably fall to the bottom of the column, but I was thinking today about how since I've turned 21 (which was only a year ago) I have drank some type of alcohol on average every other day since I've turned 21. I come home from work and get a little buzzed and then go to sleep. I will be totally honest to say that right when I got my 300C in March of last year I stopped a bad habit I had and it wasn't drinking. I used to smoke marijuana everyday of my life since sophomore year in high school, several times a day! I couldn't live without it.

I used to own a 2001 Silver Honda Prelude and would get high smoke cigarettes and street race anybody who would want to go at the green light about 3 nights out of the week. I couldn’t even go into a supermarket without getting high first.

Once I got into my 300C and into the mortgage industry I stopped smoking and have been clean since. The only bad habit I still carry is drinking about every other day. It has not effected my work yet but I fear that if I don't take actions in the near future it will. I'm a young guy and can use the excuse that I can do things like this because I'm young. I just don't want' to end up in the same situation as I was with the marijuana.

I don't drink and drive and can control how much I drink I just don't want it to turn into such an everyday thing. Back to the "TRUTH" commercials.

I love the campaign; I just feel that alcohol kills almost as much if not more people a year as cigarettes do. All the DUI deaths and liver deaths. Not to mention all the other problems people get into when they are drunk. Why not attack this problem since its just as easy for young and old people to get their hands on. I guess the alcohol companies are paying too many of the activist off to give a care. Just thought I would start a new thread. :o

The fact that you have questions/concerns about your drinking is a warning sign in and of itself. Since you have a past history of abuse, my suggestion is to take action and get help before the drinking becomes a bigger 'problem'...

Glad to hear you were able to quit the smoke and that you don't drink and drive!

A lot of people experiment with drugs and drinking sometime in their life. There is nothing wrong with going through phases and experimenting for awhile. The only thing that seems unusual is your own concern whether or not you will be able to stop drinking. Don't lose or ignore that concern. If you don't think you can beat the drinking desire, then get some help.
I have been close to a person that had a drinking problem and they had a huge denial problem. You clearly have good awareness of yourself and situation, which is half the battle with an addiction. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders.

Would suggest to contact AA and with your positive attitude you can be done with alcohol shortly. The AA program and support will help you the rest of your life!

man live your life the way it feels good to you. .when you question yourself you already know the answers.. this isn't really a topic for a car forum .. but if you are looking for help l'm sure the great people on this board will continue to give you their perspectives.. just take them at that.. individual perspectives..

personally i enjoy the result of all the choices I've made wether "good" or "bad" as experience.

the only rule in my book is do unto others... it applies in EVERY situation

first - this is why I like this forum

second, the best to you!

I never smoked but when I was in college I drank. I like you figured I was young but when I turned 23 I decided to stop as it may effect me in my later years. As was said enjoy life but you must think things through.

Good luck and enjoy the C

Thumbs up What a great forum! (Keep in mind I understand that nicotine is addictive)

Hey thanks for all the advice folks! I've taken it upon myself to chill on the drinking thing and just drink a bit on the weekends. It may be beer, wine, or some spirits. Of course wine is the best for you, but I'm big Dos Equis beer fan.

I hope some of ya'll didn't get the wrong impression of me in thinking I'm a "wino" or something. I wanted to bring out the problems people are having with alcohol, even if they drink once a week. For example somebody who smokes a few cigarettes or cigars on the weekends might get put down by someone who is a casual drinker that has a few drinks on the weekends and what the casual drinker is doing is just as bad too.

Medical doctors recommend people to drink a glass a wine once to a few times a week. Beer and spirits are just plain bad. I feel that if they outlaw cigarettes, it would only be fair to outlaw alcohol. More people drink versus people that smoke tobacco, that's a fact. To end all of this I can say that I don't think they should outlaw any of this stuff, its up to people to control themselves, but I will say that lately tobacco has been getting more bad press then alcohol, and alcohol can be just as deadly when abused, even worse then tobacco. I'm just curious how the alcohol companies are dodging all this action?

seems as if no matter what someone likes to do, there is always some group out there that wants to protect you by eliminating o :o :o r restricting it (e.g. smoking, drinking, fat foods, chocolate, sugar, suv, ad infinitum). :o

Some people would like to restrict us from having a HEMI in our cars. The HEMI is just like every other vice in life, it can and will be abused by some. For example, smoking the tires at every stoplight is abuse of the HEMI; come on now, every other stoplight is plenty.
