Ford moves forward with new twin-turbo V-6s

Ford Motor Co.'s new 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine will go into production on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models. Barb Samardzich, Ford's powertrain vice president, wouldn't provide timing. But she did say Sunday at the Detroit auto show that all three brands will get the new engine, which Ford is calling TwinForce.

Additionally, Ford Motor Co. intends to remake 100 percent of its Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicle lineup by 2010, the automaker's top executives said today at the Detroit auto show. That accompanies an earlier pledge to deliver 70 percent new or upgraded products by 2008.

Could be.

It pumps out 415 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque (and runs on E85).

In the Lincoln this new motor is expected to be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles.

Beautiful technology. And in a car that Ralph Giles' creative genius is the obvious inspiration for.

Ah, good!

Yes, indeed you should. And he's a true car guy, campaigning his own Charger in major road race events, etc. And he's as pleasant & personable a fellow as you'd ever want to meet. A great guy.

I'm glad I could introduce him to you.

Very impressive power train. I will believe it when I see it….and it will be interesting to see the type of designs they come up with. So far it has been highly blahsville. And all I ever owned were Fords and Lincolns until my precious 5.7, 6.1 and 8.3

You've obviously not seen the Lincoln MKR concept, danno.

It's a drop-dead gorgeous car that Ralph Giles' creative genius is the obvious inspiration for.

I'd be tempted to trade my 300 in on one if they make it and stay true to the concept. The interior, however, causes me to cool my jets. Initial impression was that it was right out the Jetsons. Exterior, however, looks like the next luxo car that Chrysler should have built. It even resembles a Crossfire from some angles.

It looks like a grown-up Crossfire mated with a Chrysler 300C, futurized by a year or two.

See it here:
